The story

Ashenvale is the ancient, rain-drenched ancestral forest of the night elves, held sacred under the protection of the Sentinels and the demigod Cenarius. Bordering the Barrens to the south and Darkshore to the north, it has erupted into a bitter war zone as the Horde harvests timber to build its young nation. Ancient trees and tranquil moonwells share canopy with demonic holdouts, hostile beastmen, and clash points along the contested frontier.

Stretching beneath Mount Hyjal, Ashenvale has stood for millennia under the stewardship of the kaldorei and the children of Cenarius. Immense trees knit together into a dense canopy that turns daily rain into a gentle mist and casts the forest floor in eternal twilight. Ancient ruins of elven civilization poke through the moss, guarded by walking ancients and dryads. For thousands of years, the night elves built no true cities here, preferring to hunt lightly and preserve the wild domain in pristine balance.
