Falfarren River

The story

The Falfarren River flows northeast to southwest through the heart of Ashenvale, originating on the slopes of Mount Hyjal before slipping underground beneath the Barrens' northern mountains. It forms a natural boundary between night elven domains around Astranaar to the west and the encroaching Horde outposts to the east. Travelers must tread carefully, as its shaded banks and shallows harbor hostile wildlife and mark the edge of open conflict.

Feeding down from Mount Hyjal, the waters of the Falfarren cascade across waterfalls into Xavian before winding between Splintertree Post and Night Run. While it is neither exceptionally deep nor impassable under ordinary weather, it serves as the rough geopolitical dividing line in central Ashenvale. To the west lie Astranaar and the core holdings of the Kaldorei; to the east sit the camps and lumber operations of the Horde. Crossing the main road's wooden bridges brings travelers into the contested heart of the forest, where patrols clash along the banks.
