Blackfathom Deeps
The story
Blackfathom Deeps is a flooded subterranean temple complex situated along the Zoram Strand in northwestern Ashenvale. Once a shrine dedicated to the night elven moon goddess Elune, the sunken sanctuary has been overtaken by the Twilight's Hammer cult, treacherous naga, and satyrs. They gather in its dark waters to venerate and nurture Aku'mai, a primordial pet and herald of the Old Gods.
Long before the Great Sundering shattered ancient Kalimdor, this complex was known as Lathar'Lazal, a splendid temple dedicated to Elune. Highborne masons raised gem-encrusted bridges while Queen Azshara commanded the surrounding waters, partitionining salt seas and mountain streams around a sacred moonwell. When the Sundering tore the world apart ten thousand years ago, the temple sank into the coastal depths of the Veiled Sea. For millenia, it sat undisturbed beneath the waves—until foul whispers began seeping upward from the subterranean dark.
