Tirisfal Glades

The story

Tirisfal Glades is the haunting northern territory of Lordaeron, now serving as the heartland of Lady Sylvanas Windrunner and the Forsaken. Beneath blighted skies and rotting boughs lie fallen manors, dormant crypts, and the vast underground capital of the Undercity. Surrounded by mindless Scourge and zealous Scarlet crusaders, it is a perilous realm where free-willed undead carve out their survival.

Once the fertile cradle of humanity, Tirisfal Glades has withered beneath the curse of the Lich King's plague. The sun rarely penetrates the murky gloom, casting an eternal sickly pale over dying woods, neglected pumpkin patches, and cold coastal hills. While remnants of old farmsteads like the Agamand Mills and Balnir Farmstead remain, their former masters have largely been swept into mass graves or risen as restless dead. Despite the devastation, a dark resilience permeates the countryside, anchored by towns like Brill and the cloistered sanctuary of Deathknell, where freshly awakened Forsaken learn to endure their second life.

Questions, answered

Why is the sky green and the land rotting?

During the Third War, Prince Arthas and the Scourge unleashed the Plague of Undeath across the Kingdom of Lordaeron. The magical blight poisoned not only the populace, but the soil, trees, and water itself, leaving the glades in an eternal state of eerie, sickly decay.

What is the difference between the Forsaken and the Scourge here?

The Forsaken are undead who broke free from the Lich King's telepathic domination after the Battle of Mount Hyjal, choosing to follow Lady Sylvanas Windrunner with their own free will. The Scourge roaming the farmsteads and ruins remain mindless slaves bound to the Lich King's commands.

Who are the red-armored soldiers attacking travelers?

They belong to the Scarlet Crusade, an uncompromising splinter order of former Silver Hand paladins and survivors. Convinced all undead are irredeemable abominations that must be purified by sword and fire, they execute both mindless thralls and free-willed Forsaken with fanatical hatred.

Where does the name Tirisfal come from?

The region is named in honor of the titan keeper Tyr. According to legend, Tyr fell in battle against eldritch horrors in this glade. In the ancient vrykul tongue, 'Tyr's Fall' evolved into the name 'Tirisfal,' and the keeper's silver hand became an emblem woven deeply into early human mythology.

Where do newly awakened Forsaken begin their journey?

Newly awakened Forsaken emerge from the crypts of the Shadow Grave inside Deathknell, a cloistered town nestled in southwestern Tirisfal. There, administrators and executors evaluate whether the risen dead possess the sanity and loyalty required to serve the Dark Lady.

How do travelers leave Tirisfal for other continents?

A large goblin-operated zeppelin tower sits on the hillside south of Brill, right outside the Ruins of Lordaeron. These airships provide direct, regular transit across the seas to Orgrimmar in Kalimdor and Grom'gol Base Camp in Stranglethorn Vale.
