Gunther's Retreat

Gunther's Retreat is an isolated island sanctuary set in Brightwater Lake in central Tirisfal Glades. It serves as the refuge of Gunther Arcanus, a renegade necromancer who broke free from the Scourge through raw willpower. Distrustful of all outsiders, the recluse surrounds his campsite with loyal undead minions to keep intruders away.

Situated amid the misty waters of Brightwater Lake, Gunther's Retreat is an unassuming island encampment easily mistaken for another pocket of the Scourge. Its master, Gunther Arcanus, achieved what few mortal sorcerers could: when raised in undeath, his arcane mastery allowed him to tear away his soul from the Lich King's iron grip without any outside help. Mistrusting everyone, Gunther assumed the rest of the undead wandering Lordaeron were still puppets of the Scourge. He retired to this lonely isle to practice his craft in peace, posting zombie sentinels to tear apart anyone who crosses the water.
