Undercity
Carved beneath the shattered palace of Capital City, the Undercity serves as the sprawling subterranean stronghold of the Forsaken. Originally a tangle of royal crypts, dungeons, and sewers expanded by the Scourge, it was seized by Sylvanas Windrunner and forged into a heavily fortified capital for her free-willed undead.
From Royal Crypts to Scourge Bastion
Before the Third War, the depths beneath Capital City held a vast network of sewers, royal catacombs, and dungeons. During the fall of Lordaeron, Prince Arthas Menethil ordered his Scourge to begin expanding these depths into a subterranean seat of power. When the Lich King summoned Arthas away to Northrend, the death knight left the construction unfinished.
The Forsaken Capital
Amid the civil war in the Plaguelands, Sylvanas Windrunner rallied those undead whose minds had broken free from the Lich King's grip. After overthrowing the dreadlords and driving out rival forces, the newly christened Forsaken claimed the subterranean complex. They completed the twisted maze of catacombs the Scourge had started, fortifying it into an impenetrable stronghold beneath the silent ruins of their former kingdom. Today, the Dark Lady rules her people from within its poisoned halls.
