Teldrassil

The story

Teldrassil, meaning 'Crown of the Earth', is a gargantuan new World Tree raised off Kalimdor's northwest coast. Grown by the druids in the wake of the Third War, its colossal boughs support an entire twilit wilderness and the night elf capital of Darnassus. Yet beneath its tranquil, moonlit canopy, a creeping corruption has begun to stir.

Teldrassil is not merely a tree; it is an elevated ecosystem standing tall amidst the waters of the Veiled Sea. Its gargantuan limbs support rolling hills, flowing rivers fed by morning dew, misty lakes, and dense ancient glades. At its western edge sits Darnassus, the grand capital of the kaldorei. At the base of its monumental trunk lies Rut'theran Village, connected to the crown above by a mystical gateway and serving as the island's primary harbor.

Questions, answered

Why was Teldrassil grown?

After Nordrassil was devastated at the end of the Third War, the night elves lost their immortality. Archdruid Fandral Staghelm pushed the Circle of Ancients and Cenarion druids to plant a new World Tree in the sea, aiming to restore what their people had lost.

Why didn't Teldrassil restore night elf immortality?

Nordrassil originally granted immortality because Nozdormu, the Timeless One, blessed it. When Teldrassil was raised, Nozdormu judged the night elves' desire as arrogant and refused to bestow his blessing upon the new tree.

How do you leave Teldrassil?

Travelers must head through Darnassus to the pink portal in the Temple Gardens, which transports them down to Rut'theran Village at the trunk's base. From Rut'theran, a ship sails across the sea to Auberdine on the mainland of Darkshore, alongside available hippogryph routes.

Why are there no mining nodes in Teldrassil?

The entire zone is situated atop the living branches and wood of a colossal World Tree rather than natural continental rock. Because there are no stony subterranean crusts, no metal veins or ore deposits form here, though herbs flourish in great abundance.

What is causing the furbolgs and beasts to turn mad?

A sinister presence has begun to seep into Teldrassil's unblessed roots. Sickness has corrupted the local water and flora, driving peaceful timberlings and the Gnarlpine furbolg tribe into frenzied aggression, while remnants of satyrs actively cultivate the taint.

What is Shadowglen?

Shadowglen is a sheltered, secluded vale on the eastern boughs of Teldrassil surrounding the great tree Aldrassil. It serves as a peaceful sanctuary where young night elves begin their training before venturing into the wider world.
