Nordrassil

Ten thousand years ago, in the ashes of the Great Sundering, Illidan Stormrage cast vials of the original Well of Eternity into a mountaintop lake atop Mount Hyjal, birthing a new font of arcane power. To prevent this raw magic from corrupting the world or drawing the Burning Legion anew, the Dragon Aspect Alexstrasza planted an acorn from the Mother Tree, G'Hanir, directly over the waters. From it grew Nordrassil. The roots spread deep beneath Azeroth, sealing the Well's volatile energies and distributing gentle, life-giving vigor across the continents.

Nordrassil became the spiritual and cultural heart of night elf civilization through the blessings of three Great Dragon Aspects. Alexstrasza imbued the tree with peerless vigor, extending vitality to the kaldorei. Ysera bound the tree to the Emerald Dream, allowing night elven druids to enter her slumbering realm with effortless clarity. Crucially, Nozdormu the Timeless One cast his blessing across its boughs: as long as the colossal tree stood, the night elves would never age or fall prey to natural disease, gifting an entire race with enduring immortality.

Nordrassil's tranquility ended with the Third War, when the demon lord Archimonde marched upon Mount Hyjal to tear the tree apart and claim the Well's infinite power. With mortal defenders pushed to the brink, Malfurion Stormrage made the ultimate choice. Sounding the Horn of Cenarius, he called upon thousands of nature spirits and unleashed the stored enchantments within Nordrassil itself. The ensuing cataclysmic blast obliterated Archimonde and decimated the Legion. Though Nordrassil survived to heal slowly, its enchantments shattered—stripping the night elves of their beloved immortality.
