Cenarius

Cenarius, the Lord of the Forest, is the ancient demigod son of Elune and Malorne who taught the night elves the secrets of druidism. For thousands of years he served as the great patron of mortal druids and guardian of the wilderness before falling in battle during the Third War.

Son of Heaven and Earth

Cenarius was born to Elune, the goddess of the moon, and the great white stag demigod Malorne. Because Cenarius was bound to the mortal world, Elune placed him in the care of Malorne, while Ysera the Dreamer embraced him as a foster mother and guided him through the infinite paths of the Emerald Dream. Blessed with powers over living wood and earth, Cenarius fathered the Keepers of the Grove and the dryads, forever tying his bloodline to the wild places of Kalimdor.

The First Druid

Millennia ago, three youths—Malfurion Stormrage, his twin Illidan, and Tyrande Whisperwind—sought out the demigod of legend. Cenarius recognized Malfurion's exceptional heart and trained him as the first mortal druid. When Queen Azshara and her Highborne unleashed the Burning Legion during the War of the Ancients, Cenarius marshaled Kalimdor's wild demigods to fight alongside mortal defenders.

The Fall at Ashenvale

For ten millennia following the Great Sundering, Cenarius watched over Kalimdor and nurtured the Cenarion Circle alongside Malfurion. That vigilant watch ended during the Third War when the Warsong clan began harvesting timber in Ashenvale. Outraged by the destruction of sacred woodlands, Cenarius drove the invaders back until Grom Hellscream and his warriors partook of Mannoroth's demonic blood. Infused with demonic fury, the corrupted orcs overwhelmed the demigod and struck him down, casting a dark pall across nature's defenders.
