Darnassus

High amidst the sweeping boughs of Teldrassil stands Darnassus, the capital refuge of the kaldorei. Built along tranquil waters and verdant groves, it serves as the spiritual heart of the night elves and the primary Alliance bastion on northern Kalimdor. From here, High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind and Archdruid Fandral Staghelm guide their people through the trials of newfound mortality.

Sanctuary in the Boughs

Constructed in the aftermath of the Third War, Darnassus was founded to honor the survival of the night elf people after the loss of the immortality granted by their sacred World Tree, Nordrassil. Unlike the dense stone metropolises of Ironforge or Stormwind, Darnassus is an open, tranquil settlement of wood-crafted lodges, glowing shrines, and arched bridges spanning crystalline lakes. Vigilant Sentinels, towering ancients of war, and tree-shaping druids keep watch over the paths, ensuring that the peaceful quiet of nature is preserved within the city's borders.

A Divided Leadership

While Darnassus represents the unity of the kaldorei, its governance reflects subtle fractures. High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind presides over civil and military matters from the radiant Temple of the Moon, surrounded by the Sisters of Elune. Meanwhile, the Cenarion Circle's affairs fall under Archdruid Fandral Staghelm, who championed the planting of Teldrassil to restore the elves' lost immortality. With Malfurion Stormrage lost in a mysterious slumber deep within the Emerald Dream, Staghelm's aggressive vision for their future frequently creates friction with the more patient priesthood.
