Alliance

The modern Alliance descends from the original Alliance of Lordaeron, founded when Sir Anduin Lothar led Stormwind refugees north during the Second War to unite the Seven Kingdoms, dwarves, and high elves against the Old Horde. While the Scourge and the Third War decimated the north—leaving Lordaeron in ruins and driving the survivors into scattered resistance—the restored Kingdom of Stormwind rose to fill the void. Today, Stormwind stands as the preeminent seat of human leadership, carrying the banners of honor and faith into a fractured world.

The faction's backbone in the Eastern Kingdoms relies on the steadfast bond between humans and the dwarves of Ironforge under King Magni Bronzebeard. Alongside the dwarves reside the gnomes, driven from Gnomeregan by a devastating trogg uprising. Guided by High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque, the exiled gnomes lend their brilliant engineering to the Alliance war effort, believing the coalition's survival is paramount to ever reclaiming their irradiated home.

Across the Great Sea, the reclusive night elves abandoned millennia of isolation after the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Reeling from the loss of their immortality and engaged in bitter territorial clashes against the Horde over logging in Ashenvale, the kaldorei allied with their newfound mortal companions. Though cultural friction remains—and some traditionalists decry the presence of humans and dwarves in ancient forests—the Alliance provides vital military and diplomatic cooperation to safeguard Kalimdor against demonic remnants and Horde expansion.

Despite its outward strength, the Alliance is beset by internal strain. King Varian Wrynn vanished under mysterious circumstances en route to a diplomatic summit, leaving his young son Anduin on the throne under Highlord Bolvar Fordragon's regency. Relations with former human allies are fractured: the maritime kingdom of Kul Tiras keeps its distance, while Sylvanas Windrunner's undead Forsaken now hold the ruins of Lordaeron.
