Stormwind (kingdom)

The Kingdom of Stormwind is the southernmost and currently foremost human realm on Azeroth, holding dominion over Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Duskwood, and the Redridge Mountains. Sacked and shattered during the First War, it was rebuilt through blood and labor after the Second, rising to become the military and cultural center of the Alliance following the tragic collapse of Lordaeron in the north. Today, the kingdom stands beset from within and without, ruled by the ten-year-old King Anduin Wrynn under the watchful guidance of Highlord Bolvar Fordragon while its crowned monarch remains missing.

A Legacy of Defiance

Stormwind was established over a thousand years ago by descendants of the ancient Arathi empire who ventured south beyond the crags of Khaz Modan into fertile, forested valleys. Far from the northern kingdoms, the realm grew into a culture fiercely proud of its self-reliance and the Light.

Ashes and Restoration

That independence was nearly extinguished when the Orcish Horde poured through the Dark Portal. Stormwind City burned to ash in the First War, its King Llane slain. The surviving populace fled north across the Great Sea led by Sir Anduin Lothar, rallying the northern realms into the Alliance of Lordaeron. Once the Orcish threat was crushed in the Second War, refugees returned home, hiring the Stonemasons Guild to rebuild their magnificent capital of white stone and blue banners. When the Scourge wiped out Lordaeron during the Third War, Stormwind became humanity's greatest remaining bastion.
