Alliance of Lordaeron
The Alliance of Lordaeron was the historic grand coalition of the seven human kingdoms, Khaz Modan dwarves, Wildhammer gryphon riders, gnomes, and high elves formed to resist the Old Horde in the Second War. Led militarily by Supreme Commander Anduin Lothar and diplomatically by King Terenas Menethil II, it shattered the invading orcish forces and secured the Eastern Kingdoms. Though political fractures and the devastation of the Scourge tore it apart during the Third War, its legacy laid the foundation for the current Alliance.
A Coalition Born in Ashes
Following the horrific sack of Stormwind in the First War, Regent Lord Anduin Lothar brought the battered southern refugees across the Great Sea to Capital City. Pleading their cause before King Terenas Menethil II, Lothar convinced him to gather the rulers of the human nations in council. Old rivalries and border tensions ran deep, but the threat of the Horde outweighed them. Choosing Lothar as their Supreme Commander, the seven human nations bound themselves together in a desperate pact.
The Second War and the New Vanguard
Facing brutal orcish warriors, dark warlocks, and monstrous red dragons, the Alliance forged entirely new doctrines of war. Archbishop Alonsus Faol and Lothar established the Knights of the Silver Hand, elevating holy paladins like Uther the Lightbringer to counter the Horde's dark magic. When the war raged across the Hinterlands and quelled the siege of Aerie Peak, Kurdran Wildhammer pledged his fierce gryphon riders to rule the skies. Shortly thereafter, the Bronzebeard dwarves and Gnomeregan gnomes were liberated, joining high elven rangers under Alleria Windrunner. Despite the treacherous betrayal of King Perenolde of Alterac, the grand coalition drove the Horde back to Blackrock Spire and crushed their dominion.
Fracture and Ruin
Victory brought bitterness rather than enduring peace. Bitter disputes erupted over the high taxes required to maintain the orc internment camps and rebuild the blasted kingdom of Stormwind. Seeing little personal gain, Gilneas built the Greymane Wall and severed ties, Stromgarde departed over territorial and prisoner quarrels, and Quel'Thalas pulled back behind its enchanted runestones. The coalition that remained under King Terenas attempted to weather the political storm, only to be utterly dismantled during the Third War when the Cult of the Damned and the Plague of Undeath swept across Lordaeron. Arthas Menethil's betrayal tore the heart out of the kingdom, ending the golden age of the northern realm.
