Terenas Menethil II
King Terenas Menethil II was the venerable sovereign of Lordaeron who ruled for over five decades and forged the original Alliance of Lordaeron during the Second War. Renowned as a wise and diplomatic leader, he shielded humanity from the initial Horde invasion and sheltered the young Prince Varian Wrynn. His tragic murder by his corrupted son, Prince Arthas, directly triggered the collapse of Lordaeron to the Scourge.
Architect of the Alliance
When refugees from Stormwind arrived in the north led by Sir Anduin Lothar, King Terenas Menethil II answered their call. Convening the monarchs of the fractured human kingdoms alongside envoys from Ironforge and Quel'Thalas, Terenas orchestrated the formation of the Alliance of Lordaeron. Rather than seizing military command for himself, he wisely nominated Lothar as supreme commander, uniting humanity's kingdoms for the first time in millennia to triumph over the Old Horde.
The Strains of Victory
In the wake of the Second War, Terenas insisted upon placing surviving orcs into internment camps rather than executing them, believing that peace could be preserved if their demonic fury dissipated. This humane but costly decision placed staggering taxes on Lordaeron's allies. Gilneas sealed itself behind the Greymane Wall, Stromgarde seceded over political disputes, and the high elves withdrew entirely, leaving Terenas to shoulder the burden with a fracturing coalition.
