Tanaris

Tanaris is a vast, sweltering desert spanning the southern reaches of Kalimdor, defined by rolling sand dunes and blistering heat. At its heart lies Gadgetzan, a neutral trading outpost operated by the goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel. Beyond the bustling settlements, the dunes conceal hostile sand trolls, dangerous silithid hives, and the hidden domain of the bronze dragonflight.

Before the Great Sundering shattered the world, this expanse was a lush jungle settled by early tauren and claimed by the Gurubashi Empire. The cataclysm stripped the land of its canopy, leaving a barren, sun-scorched wilderness. Stranded by the shifting geography, the local trolls adapted into the hardened Sandfury tribe, carving out their isolated empire within the walled city of Zul'Farrak. Today, the desert floor is ruled by hyenas, basilisks, and scorpids, while subterranean tunnels snake beneath the baking earth.
