Dustwallow Marsh
The story
Dustwallow Marsh is a vast, sweltering swampland in central Kalimdor, trapped between the arid plains of the Barrens and the Great Sea. Fed by perpetual subterranean springs, its treacherous fens harbor dangerous predators, covert faction skirmishes, and the lurking presence of the black dragonflight. It serves as home to the Alliance fortress-island of Theramore in the east and the Horde-allied Stonemaul ogres of Brackenwall Village to the northwest.
Before the Great Sundering, Dustwallow was a high, grassy plain teeming with herd animals. The cataclysm shattered the valley, causing the water table to rise and drown the earth in endless stagnant pools, mossy shallows, and choking mud. Underground springs ensure the marsh remains perpetually humid and submerged, blanketed in thick fog and infested with crocolisks, raptors, and spiders. Jagged shallows and wandering bogs make travel perilous for any adventurer stepping off the crumbling causeways.
