Darkmist Cavern
Darkmist Cavern is an abandoned mine tucked into northwestern Dustwallow Marsh, completely infested with predatory giant spiders. Crumbling ruins outside hint at an unfortunate former settlement swallowed up by the marsh's hazards. Locals remain divided on whether the cavern gave its name to the arachnids or the reverse.
The Brood in the Mine
Situated in the northwest reaches of Dustwallow Marsh, Darkmist Cavern appears to have once been an active mining venture. Today, any human presence has long vanished, leaving behind rotting, ruined shacks outside the entrance and a network of tunnels choked with thick webs. The cavern is overrun by Darkmist spiders, predatory horrors whose venom and size make the tunnels deadly to unwary wanderers. Marsh dwellers still dispute whether the cavern was named after the foul brood nesting inside or if the spiders took the title from the misty cave itself.
Hermit's Larder
Despite the obvious danger, the cavern attracts occasional scavengers and eccentric marshfolk. The hermit 'Swamp Eye' Jarl is notorious for sending travelers deep into the webs to harvest the eyes of these monstrous spiders, insisting they make a fine stock for broth. Aside from such eccentric culinary outings, most sensible travelers steer well clear of the web-strewn entrance.
