The Shady Rest Inn was once a welcoming human-built waystation sitting just off the road between the Barrens and Theramore Isle. Today, only charred timbers and smoldering ashes remain following a sudden and violent arson attack. The tragedy left the innkeeper shattered and sparked tension across the marsh as investigators sift through the wreckage for clues.

Built to serve travelers navigating the treacherous crossing between Dustwallow Marsh and the Barrens, the Shady Rest Inn stood as an outpost of civilized comfort in a harsh wilderness. That ended when the inn was abruptly razed to the ground in a devastating fire. Innkeeper James Hyal managed to survive the inferno, but the blaze claimed the lives of his wife and child. Traumatized and grief-stricken, Hyal was left with nothing as the ruins became an active crime scene, drawing scrutiny from Theramore authorities desperate to identify who ignited the flames.
