Tauren
The tauren, or shu'halo in their native tongue, are a noble race of nomadic bovine humanoids native to central Kalimdor. Deeply devoted to the Earth Mother, shamanism, and the natural world, they were driven near extinction by ruthless centaur clans before forging a bond with Thrall's New Horde. Today, united under High Chieftain Cairne Bloodhoof, they have established a permanent home across the verdant plains of Mulgore and the high rises of Thunder Bluff.
Nomads of the Barrens
For countless generations, the tauren lived as seasonal nomads wandering the arid plains of the Barrens, hunting the great kodo and listening for the voice of the Earth Mother. However, their peaceful wanderings were plagued by centuries of brutal bloodshed. The ferocious centaur tribes, born from the tragic union of Zaetar and Princess Theradras, waged an unrelenting war of extermination against them. Lacking a fortified homeland and reluctant to wage endless war, the tauren tribes were pushed to the brink of annihilation, their very survival hanging by a thread.
The New Horde and Thunder Bluff
Survival came from an unexpected alliance across the sea. During the Third War, Chieftain Cairne Bloodhoof encountered Warchief Thrall and his newly arrived orcs. Recognizing a shared spirit of honor and a longing for shamanic heritage, the two leaders joined forces. With the Horde's assistance, the tauren crushed the marauding centaur and claimed the lush, sheltered grasslands of Mulgore. Upon its windswept mesas, Cairne raised the city of Thunder Bluff. Indebted by this salvation, the tauren marched alongside the Horde to Mount Hyjal to turn back the Burning Legion.
