Earth Mother

The Earth Mother is the supreme, benevolent creator deity worshipped by the tauren, revered as the living embodiment and architect of Azeroth's land and elements. In tauren myth, she shaped the mountains, plains, and seasons and set the sun and moon in the sky as her watchful eyes. Her presence permeates everyday tauren culture, guiding their reverence for nature, duty to the elements, and hopes for the afterlife.

The Dawn of Creation

Tauren creation myths tell that before day and night existed, the Earth Mother set about shaping Azeroth as a haven for her coming children. Scraping her nails across newly raised mountains sparked the world's first fires, while her hands carved rivers and ocean beds. Her laughter gave breath to the wind, and by lifting the primordial fogs into the sky, she brought the first rains, which coaxed grass, forests, and grain from the soil.

Sun, Moon, and the Shu'halo

Aided by the friendly elements, the Earth Mother brought forth twins: An'she, the sun, and Mu'sha, the moon. To rest while keeping them safe, she placed the radiant twins into her eyes, creating day, night, and the cycle of the seasons as she opened and closed each lid. Later, she pressed her heart against the fertile earth, breathing the song of life into the land to create the shu'halo, the first tauren. She charged the twins and the elements with teaching the young mortals how to hunt, build, dance, and live in harmony with the wilds.

Eyes in the Heavens

In time, the Earth Mother set An'she and Mu'sha in the sky, where the sun and moon keep watch over the land by day and by night. Tauren say that her spirit now dwells in the rivers, trees, plains, and mountains of the world, and that every lesser nature spirit springs from her and returns to her in the end.

Living Legacy

Tauren believe her spirit cradles Azeroth still. Her ear is attuned to the winds, hearing the prayers of her children, and her heart beats within the deep stone. Tauren hunters, shamans, and druids direct their thanks to her for every kill and harvest, believing that all life originates from her embrace and that every tauren's spirit returns to her soil upon death.
