Zephras Isle
The story
Zephras Isle is a flying island suspended within Skywall, the Elemental Plane of air. It serves as the ancestral starting home of the Skyborne, whose society now faces an existential crisis as the island's sustaining magic steadily erodes. With contact severed from neighboring sky-realms, its inhabitants struggle against elemental collapse and arriving refugees.
Zephras Isle is an isolated landmass adrift in the endless winds of Skywall. For generations, the Skyborne lived here alongside native air elementals who helped preserve the magical currents holding the isle aloft. However, several centuries ago, those elemental stewards vanished entirely. Deprived of their presence and guardianship, the latent enchantments upholding the land have slowly begun to fail, causing Zephras to slowly fracture and destabilize.
Questions, answered
Where is Zephras Isle located?
Zephras Isle is situated inside Skywall, the Elemental Plane of air, rather than upon the surface of Azeroth. It floats among the perpetual clouds and wind currents of this ethereal domain.
Why is Zephras Isle falling apart?
The island relied on the presence of native air elementals who once coexisted with the Skyborne. Several centuries ago, these elementals vanished, leaving the magical foundations that anchor and preserve the flying land to slowly weaken and decay over time.
What are Anvilas and Siroccas?
They are neighboring floating islands in Skywall also populated by the Skyborne. Zephras Isle lost communication with both when the elementals disappeared, and fleeing refugees now report that both Anvilas and Siroccas are collapsing into oblivion.
How do people travel between Zephras Isle and Azeroth?
The Skyborne operate skydocks at the settlement of Valanaar. Airships launch from these docks across the planar boundary to Azeroth, landing near Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains and at Skywatcher Plateau in Mulgore.
Who are the Skyborne?
The Skyborne are the inhabitants who make their home on Zephras Isle and its sister sky-realms. Having dwelled in Skywall for generations, they now face the slow destruction of their flying homeland as its binding magic fades.
Who lives on Zephras Isle besides the Skyborne?
Aside from peaceful villages and visiting refugees, the island is troubled by local bandits, cavern-dwelling nightclaws, and beasts inhabiting areas like the Shriekling Den and Nightclaw Cavern.
