Elemental Plane

The Elemental Plane is an interconnected pocket dimension forged by the titans to imprison Azeroth's chaotic elementals. Divided into four distinct realms—Skywall, Deepholm, the Abyssal Maw, and the Firelands—it confines the primordial spirits away from the mortal world. Though sealed long ago, cracks in its barriers allow violent elemental incursions and catastrophic summonings into Azeroth.

A Prison for Primordial Chaos

In the ancient days, the elementals served as lieutenants of the Old Gods. When the titans triumphed, they banished the elemental lords and their myriad servants into an isolated realm known as the Elemental Plane, divided into four domains tailored to each primal force: Skywall for air, Deepholm for earth, the Abyssal Maw for water, and the Firelands for fire. With the elementals' departure, nature calmed, and Azeroth's surface finally knew peace.

Endless Strife

Banishment did not temper the fury of the elementals. Confined within their prison, the primordial powers wage endless wars against one another across the boundaries of their domains.

Breaching the Wards

The barriers separating Azeroth from the Elemental Plane are formidable, but not unbreakable. Two centuries ago, during the desperate climax of the War of the Three Hammers, Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan pierced the veil to summon Ragnaros the Firelord from the Firelands, an apocalyptic event that ruptured the Redridge Mountains and forged Blackrock Mountain. In recent days, volatile cracks have opened across Kalimdor. Dimensional rifts repeatedly manifest in Silithus, Un'Goro Crater, Azshara, and Winterspring, disgorging waves of hostile elementals eager to test the defenses of the mortal world.
