Searing Gorge

The story

Searing Gorge is a scorched, desolate canyon in southern Khaz Modan, bordering Blackrock Mountain to the south. Once a verdant expanse of the Redridge Mountains, it was devastated over two centuries ago by the apocalyptic summoning of Ragnaros the Firelord. Today, the gorge is heavily worked by the Dark Iron clan, whose extensive slave mines in the Cauldron are closely monitored by the breakaway Thorium Brotherhood.

Before the War of the Three Hammers, the territory that is now Searing Gorge was a green, rolling mountain region connected to the Redridge chain. That lush landscape ceased to exist over two hundred and thirty years ago when Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan, desperate to turn the tide of defeat, summoned Ragnaros from the depths beneath the world. The cataclysmic emergence of the Firelord tore the earth asunder, raised Blackrock Mountain, reduced the grand Dark Iron city of Thaurissan to smoking ruins, and burned the northern valley into a cracked expanse of ash, sulfur, and volcanic glass.
