Sea of Cinders
The Sea of Cinders is an expanse of scorched, windblown terrain lying across the southern stretch of the Searing Gorge, directly north of Blackrock Mountain. Ravaged by elemental heat and relentless gusts, the flat ground constantly vents ash and embers, creating a choking wasteland where very little can endure.
A Wasteland of Embers
Stretching between the rocky cliffs of the Searing Gorge and the imposing bulk of Blackrock Mountain, the Sea of Cinders earns its name from the suffocating haze of particulate and burning grit that constantly sweeps its plains. When the Firelord Ragnaros was summoned into the mortal world centuries ago, the violent upheaval fractured the Redridge Mountains and transformed the surrounding landscape into an arid slag heap. The Sea of Cinders is among the most barren remnants of that cataclysm, an uninhabitable plain where the earth itself refuses to cool.
Peril Beneath the Slopes
Because it borders the north approach to Blackrock Mountain, travelers and scavengers often have no choice but to cross these scorching flats. The winds here kick up dense clouds of blinding ash that hide sudden fissures, elemental horrors, and wandering predators adapted to the searing heat. Between the hostile environment and the looming presence of the Dark Iron dwarves who claim the region, any trek across the cinders demands vigilance and swift passage.
