Rested XP in WoW Forever: Inns, Capital Cities, Camp Tents and the 150% Cap

Rested XP in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) builds while you are logged out in an inn or capital city at 5% of your current level's experience per 8 hours, caps at 150% of that level, and doubles the experience you earn from killing enemies while it lasts. That is according to Warcraft Tavern's Forever experience guide, a page that shows no publication date.

Quick answer: Log out in an inn or a capital city, and about 10 days away fills the bar to its 150% cap, which is 30 bubbles. Rested XP doubles kill experience only, not quest or exploration experience. Forever also adds the Camp Tent and the Cozy Sleeping Bag as places to rest.

How rested XP works in WoW Forever
Six-step rested XP map from Warcraft Tavern's Forever guide: log out in an inn or capital city, gain 5 percent of your level's XP per 8 hours, reach the cap of 150 percent or 30 bubbles in about 10 days, rested XP doubles kill XP but not quest XP, a Camp Tent gives a one hour buff, and a Cozy Sleeping Bag gives up to 3 Well-Rested stacks of 1 percent XP each.

The old inns of Azeroth sell one thing besides a bed, and it is time. A traveler who leaves the fire for a few days comes back with a little more edge to the first blow.

How does rested XP work in WoW Forever?

Rested XP is the game's way of paying you to go home. Warcraft Tavern says rest accumulates while you are logged out in an eligible place, at 5% of your current level's experience requirement per 8 hours. The cap is 150% of the XP required for your current level, which the guide says equals 30 bubbles.

While the bar lasts, Warcraft Tavern says it doubles your experience from enemy kills. It does not directly increase quest turn-in or exploration experience. The cap scales with your current level, so a higher level means a bigger bank to fill.

Where do you gain rested XP, and where do the inns come in?

Warcraft Tavern says inns and capital cities are the rested areas, and that logging out in one keeps accumulating rest. The guide does not describe general outdoor accumulation, so this article does not guess at it. In the original game, Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide says a logged-out character always builds rest, and that an inn or capital builds it four times faster than the wild.

For the cities, see the guides to Orgrimmar, Ironforge, Thunder Bluff and Undercity. For the other capitals, read the Darnassus guide.

What are the Camp Tent and Cozy Sleeping Bag?

These are the Forever additions that let a camp stand in for an inn. Warcraft Tavern says the Camp Tent gives a Rested XP buff similar to inns and cities, lasting one hour and persisting through death. It says lying on a Cozy Sleeping Bag counts as a rested area and grants up to 3 Well-Rested stacks that each add 1% experience.

Warcraft Wiki's Patch 1.60.1 page agrees that the Cozy Sleeping Bag lets players gain rested experience while logged out, and says it is obtained through a scavenger hunt starting at level 14 in Westfall or the Barrens, and lists the quest that hands over the bag at level 40. Read the camping guide, and for the zones, the Westfall guide and Barrens guide.

Does the Legacy system change rested XP?

Yes. Warcraft Tavern says the Legacy system's Well Rested talent adds 4% per rank to rested accumulation and to the cap. The wider system is in the Legacy system guide.

How is this different from the original game?

The numbers differ, so trust the Forever page for Forever. Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide says a rested bubble takes 10 hours of accelerated rest, with a 30-bubble maximum taking 300 hours, or 12.5 days. The Forever guide gives 8 hours per 5%, and about 10 days to the cap. The Lore Forever add-on is a free, fan-made companion for zone background; see downloads.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Warcraft Tavern's Forever guide shows no publication date, and the page does not say whether its numbers will change at launch.
  • The guide does not say how fast rest builds outside inns and cities.
  • Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide and its Forever guide give different accumulation rates, so Classic figures should not be applied to Forever.
  • Which specific inns count as rested areas is not listed in the sources opened.
