WoW Forever Legacy System Explained: Challenges and Perks

The Legacy system is WoW Forever's account-wide progression: you complete challenges to earn Legacy Points, then spend them on perks for each character. It rewards exploring the game, not raw power, and you do not need alts to finish it. Most players earn their first point when their first character reaches level 25.

Quick answer: 65 challenges in 6 categories each award 1 point. Points are shared across your Battle.net account. Each character can spend up to 16 points at launch on three perk trees. Rewards include a spectral bear mount, pet and tabard.

Points by challenge category, plus the caps that matter.

How to unlock it

Legacy opens with your first Legacy Point. You can get it in three ways:

  • Reach level 25 with your first character (the usual path)
  • Reach skill 150 in a non-gathering primary profession
  • Explore the entire world map

Open the Legacy window with the shield icon on the menu or the Y hotkey.

The three parts

Legacy Challenges. There are 65 challenges in six categories. Each completed challenge gives one point to your Battle.net account, usable by all non-Hardcore characters.

  • Classes (27): reach level 25, 45 and 60 on each class
  • Tradeskills (18): reach skill 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession
  • PvP (12): reach ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14, reach Exalted with each battleground reputation, and finish three quests in the Field of Honor Season's Journey
  • Dungeons (3): defeat the final boss of all level 15 to 25, 26 to 45 and 46 to 60 dungeons
  • Raids (3): defeat Onyxia, all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses and all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses
  • Adventure (2): explore the whole map on one character and complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline

Legacy Perks. Each character spends points on its own perks. There are three trees of seven perks:

  • Professions: Working Overtime, Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Performance, Master Chef, Luremaster, Dedicated Study
  • Adventure: Well Rested, Thrill of Adventure, High Alert, Field Guide, Field Medicine, Talented, Frequent Flier
  • Resourcefulness: Gourmand, The Quick and the Dead, Reinforce, For Great Honor, Permanence, Diplomat, Reagent Economy

Legacy Rewards. Total points unlock toys and cosmetics. At launch: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Blizzard plans new rewards with each content update.

The numbers that matter

  • 65 points exist in total.
  • 29 points can be earned on a single character without alts (3 from leveling, 6 from tradeskills, 12 from PvP, 2 from adventure and 6 from dungeons and raids).
  • 16 points is the most any one character can spend at launch.

Because spending is capped, a single character cannot unlock every perk, and alts are optional. Blizzard says the cap helps new players catch up and keeps alts from being required.

How to earn your first point

  1. Level your first character to 25 while questing. See the leveling guide.
  2. Alternatively, reach skill 150 in a crafting profession, which also unlocks Legacy. See the professions guide.
  3. Check the Legacy window and spend your first point on the tree that matches how you play.

Which perks first?

Blizzard has not ranked the perks, so choose by playstyle: Professions if you craft or gather, Adventure if you travel and quest, Resourcefulness if you want economy and survival bonuses. Spending is per character, so a new alt can make different choices.

Hardcore

Hardcore is not available at launch. Non-Hardcore challenges do not carry over to Hardcore, and a challenge earned in Hardcore counts in every other ruleset. PvP challenges cannot be completed there, and Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges at its launch. See the rulesets guide.

What may change

New challenges arrive with each content release, existing trees will get new perks and new trees will come later. The point totals above describe launch.
