Best WoW Forever Addons: What Works and What to Avoid
WoW Forever supports addons, but with the same API restrictions Blizzard introduced for Midnight. Customization, interface and organizing addons are expected to work, and tools that automate combat decisions are limited. Forever also gets Blizzard's built-in damage meter and cooldown manager, so you need fewer addons than you might expect.
Quick answer: Start with few addons, use only builds made for Forever, enable them one at a time and expect some classic favorites to be limited or missing. Lore Forever is our own add-on and is listed here because we made it.
What Blizzard has said
- Addons are part of the Forever experience, and players can still customize their UI.
- A Blizzard representative said Forever shares Mainline WoW's UI architecture, including the vast majority of the APIs in 12.1.5.
- Forever adopts the API restrictions introduced with Midnight, so addons cannot have too much power over a player's moment-to-moment decisions.
- Blizzard's built-in damage meter and cooldown manager are coming to Forever, per a Game Informer interview.
We could not find an official list of approved addons, and no Blizzard statement says which specific addons will work at launch.
What this means in practice
- Interface and inventory addons usually just reorganize what you see, so they are the least likely to be affected.
- Combat helpers and timers are most likely to be limited, because the restrictions target automation and forecasting.
- Anything built for Classic Era may not load as-is. Look for a build made for Forever.
Addons people mention
A third-party roundup from ExitLag reported these beta statuses. Treat them as reports, not guarantees, since support changed weekly during the beta:
- Questie (quest helper): reported as working, with a Forever-specific build
- Details! (damage meter): reported as working within API limits
- ClassicUI Forever (unit frames and action bars): reported as working
- WeakAuras: reported as not currently available
- Deadly Boss Mods: reported as a limited port in progress
Check each addon's own page for a version made for Forever before installing it.
Lore Forever (our add-on)
Lore Forever is a free add-on that narrates the lore of zones, quests and dungeons while you play, with spoiler awareness. It tells the story; it does not play the game for you. We built it, so weigh our recommendation accordingly. Download it from the downloads page, and see the lore pages for what it covers.
Willo is a separate optional Windows companion that answers spoken lore questions. It does not control your character. See the Willo page.

How to install addons safely
- Start with a clean client and do not copy old Classic folders.
- Install one addon at a time and log in to test it.
- Look for a Forever-specific build.
- If you see error pop-ups at login, disable addons left over from the beta.
- Back up your settings. A bug reported in the beta could reset saved layouts and keybinds.
Common mistakes
- Installing a long list of addons before you know the game
- Expecting combat-automation tools to work as they did in the original game
- Downloading addons from unofficial sites rather than the addon's own page
- Forgetting that the built-in damage meter already exists
