WoW Forever First 10 Levels: A Beginner Checklist
Your first 10 levels in WoW Forever are for learning your character, not racing. Finish the quests in your starting zone in clusters, visit your class trainer whenever you level, pick a profession by level 5, and do not buy expensive gear. That is the whole plan; the rest of this guide explains each step.
Quick checklist: pick a race and class you like, quest in clusters, train abilities, choose a gathering profession, keep a few free bag slots, learn when to rest, and read the quest text.

Step 1: choose a start you will enjoy
Your race decides your starting area. Alliance Humans commonly start in Elwynn Forest, Dwarves and Gnomes in Dun Morogh and Night Elves in Teldrassil. Horde Orcs and Trolls start in Durotar, Tauren in Mulgore and Undead in Tirisfal Glades. Skyborne of either faction start on Zephras Isle, and that needs a Skyborne pack.
If you are unsure of a class, the beginner class comparison and the race and class guide show your options. Pick the fantasy you want to play; a class you enjoy gets you to level 10 faster than one you read was "best".
Step 2: complete quests in clusters
Read the quest text, note where each objective is, and do objectives that sit near each other in one trip. Turn them all in together. This saves walking and keeps you from carrying a quest you cannot finish.
Because Forever has no level scaling, an area nearby can be much harder than yours. If a creature is far above your level, it is not a good target. Come back later.
Step 3: visit your class trainer on each level
At most levels you can learn new abilities from a class trainer in your starting area or a nearby town. Training costs copper and silver, so keep some money for it. Put new abilities on your action bars as you learn them, and note what your resource bar means: mana, rage or energy.
Talents and Legacy talents are changed at a class trainer in a major city. You will not need that yet.
Step 4: choose a profession at the right time
Blizzard's profession rules, as described by Warcraft Tavern, set the pace:
- Level 1: gathering professions can be learned. A starting-zone quest offers three choices (Mining, Skinning or Herbalism), each giving 2 skill points.
- Level 5: crafting professions and secondary professions can be learned.
- Level 10: the Journeyman tier opens (skill 50 to 150).
You can hold two primary professions plus all three secondary ones (Cooking, First Aid and Fishing). Pairing a gathering profession with a crafting one is the simplest start. See the best professions guide.
Step 5: manage bags, loot and gold
- Pick up quest rewards that help your class and sell gray items to a vendor.
- Keep a few bag slots free so you do not leave loot behind.
- Spend on abilities first, then food and drink, then bags. Do not buy expensive gear at level 8; you will outgrow it quickly.
- Learning riding in Forever gives you your first mount, so do not buy one separately. Save for your riding skill. See the gold guide.
Step 6: learn to rest and retreat
Rest to recover health and mana between fights, eat and drink if you have food, and retreat when a fight goes wrong. If you die, release your spirit and run back to your body from the nearest graveyard.
Step 7: add the story
Quests are more memorable when you know why the places and factions matter. The free Lore Forever add-on narrates the lore of zones, quests and dungeons while you play. It does not play for you. Willo is a separate Windows companion that answers spoken lore questions; see the Willo page.
Step 8: plan what comes after level 10
Around levels 10 to 12 you leave your starting region. The first new dungeons, the Alliance's Hall of Thanes and the Ruins of Lordaeron, begin at levels 13 and 15. The leveling guide has the full 1 to 60 framework.
Common mistakes
- Chasing one quest into dangerous ground while several nearby quests sit unfinished
- Skipping the class trainer for several levels
- Learning a third primary profession, which forces you to unlearn one and restart from zero
- Spending all your gold on early gear
- Fighting several enemies at once before you know your defensive button
Frequently asked questions
What should I do first in WoW Forever?
Choose your race and class, then do the quests in your starting zone in clusters. Visit your class trainer each time you level.
When can I learn a profession?
Gathering professions open at level 1, crafting and secondary professions at level 5 and the Journeyman tier at level 10.
Do I need a mount before level 10?
No. Riding is learned later, and learning it gives you your first mount.
Is there level scaling?
No. Nearby zones can be much harder than yours, so watch creature levels.
Which class is easiest for the first 10 levels?
Pet classes such as Hunter and Warlock are often easier solo. Warcraft Tavern's class guides call Hunter one of the strongest levelers. See the class guide.
