WoW Forever Zephras Isle Guide: Map, Quests and Lore

Zephras Isle is the floating starting island of the Skyborne in WoW Forever, covering levels 1 to 12. It sits in Skywall, the Elemental Plane of Air, and a Skyborne character begins there instead of in a classic starting zone. You need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher to play a Skyborne at all.

At a glance: Levels 1 to 12. Hub: Valanaar. First quests start in Thendal Village with Rorian the Dayseeker. Airships connect to Mulgore (Horde) and the Alterac Mountains (Alliance). No flight master on the isle.

Zephras Isle's two airship routes, both leaving from Valanaar.

Where Zephras Isle is

The isle is not on the normal Azeroth map the way Elwynn Forest is. It floats in Skywall, an elemental plane, and you reach the mainland by airship from Valanaar, the isle's hub:

  • Horde: an airship to Skywatcher Plateau in Mulgore, near Thunder Bluff.
  • Alliance: the Dalaran Skycutter to the outskirts of Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains.

There is no flight master on Zephras Isle, so use the airships to leave. Skyborne characters of either faction begin there, and Blizzard describes the area's look as inspired by Skywall and blended with classic Warcraft style.

Who starts here

Only Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle. They come in two forms that match the two factions:

  • High Order Skyborne (Alliance) descend from the Highborne scholars of Eldre'Thalas and seek to reclaim lost arcane knowledge. They can be Druids, Hunters, Mages, Rogues or Warriors.
  • Windshaper Skyborne (Horde) descend from the first shen'dorei high elves who received the wind spirits' gift of elemental skysight. They can be Druids, Hunters, Rogues, Shamans or Warriors.

Both can use the Walk on Air glide, Elemental Insight and Wind Blessed racials. High Order Skyborne add Read Ley Line; Windshapers add Skysight. The full list is in the race and class guide.

Your first steps on the isle

Skyborne start in Thendal Grove, where each class has a trainer: Blademaster Ren for warriors, Tai'ree Farsight for hunters, Akeri Duskblade for rogues, Xyton Silverwind for druids, Dorii Brightwhisper for mages (High Order) and Windshaper Boro for shamans (Windshapers).

Rorian the Dayseeker stands in Thendal Village at about 42, 24 on the map. He starts the first quests, including the first quest of each class's path, and the Coming of Age quest ends with him. Nobody on the isle explains what "Dayseeker" means.

The isle also introduces three reputations: the High Order (Alliance), the Windshapers (Horde) and the Nightclaw Druids of Shadowgale Forest.

Blizzard has not published a full quest list or map for Zephras Isle, so route advice beyond these first steps would be guesswork. Follow your quest log, clear nearby objectives together and read the dialogue.

The story of the Skyborne

The Skyborne are high elves, also called shen'dorei. They descend from exiles of Eldre'Thalas, the city of the Highborne, who lived on Zephras Isle for roughly ten thousand years. Cut off in Skywall, they kept two traditions that drifted apart: one tied to elemental spirits, the other to the arcane.

Blizzard's own summary of the starting experience is that the Skyborne's shared ancestry has led to very different visions for their future. That tension is why one people can join both the Alliance and the Horde. To see how they fit into Azeroth's older history, read the lore explained guide and the Lore Forever Skyborne page.

Spoiler note: this guide stays with what Blizzard and the game's data say about the starting area. It does not reveal quest endings.

What to bring and what to expect

  • Skyborne ride galestriders, not horses or wolves, and riding skill is bought in game as for other races. Blizzard says Forever has no flying mounts.
  • Because Forever has no level scaling, finish the isle's quests before heading to a mainland zone. The isle's range ends around level 12.
  • Your next stop depends on your faction. From the airship landing you can travel on toward Hall of Thanes or Ruins of Lordaeron around levels 13 to 20. See the dungeon guide.
