WoW Forever New Dungeons Guide: All 9 Locations and Levels

exec 847e6166 f37d 4a33 9200 812efbd4a052

WoW Forever adds nine new dungeons across the 1–60 journey, from early adventures in Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron to late challenges such as Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace. They expand places that have been part of Azeroth's geography for years.

An accuracy note: Blizzard confirmed the dungeon names, and its beta announcement confirmed the first two level ranges. The later level bands below come from beta data and community guides, so treat them as provisional and check the in-game recommendation before you travel.

All nine new dungeons at a glance

  • Hall of Thanes: levels 13–18, beneath Ironforge. Alliance only.
  • Ruins of Lordaeron: levels 15–20, in the ruins of Lordaeron above the Undercity. Both factions.
  • Excavation Site: Wetlands: about levels 26–31, above Whelgar's Excavation Site, east of Menethil Harbor.
  • City of Dalaran: about levels 28–33, inside Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains. Both factions.
  • The Drowned City: about levels 35–40, in Stranglethorn Vale.
  • Krol'dok Stronghold: about levels 40–45, in the Riverglades.
  • Alcaz Prison: about levels 48–53, in Dustwallow Marsh.
  • Blackmaw Hold: about levels 55–60, in Azshara.
  • Shaper's Terrace: about levels 58–60, in Un'Goro Crater.

Blizzard has not said which dungeons are open on launch day, so do not assume all nine are available on November 4. Do not treat these numbers as guaranteed minimum entry levels.

1. Hall of Thanes: a new story under Ironforge

Where: beneath Ironforge. Levels: 13–18 (confirmed for beta). Faction: Alliance.

The dwarven capital already feels as if it hides generations of history behind its walls, and Hall of Thanes gives you a reason to descend into its deeper spaces. For a new Alliance character, it is a fitting first group adventure, because the danger lies beneath a city you visit to train and shop.

Before entering: learn your group role, bring supplies and look for related quests.

2. Ruins of Lordaeron: the aftermath of a kingdom

Where: the ruins of Lordaeron, above the Undercity. Levels: 15–20 (confirmed for beta). Factions: both.

Lordaeron is one of Warcraft's central tragedies. Knowing how the kingdom fell, how the Scourge rose and where the Forsaken came from gives this dungeon far more weight than a set of rooms. Blizzard connects it to the Forsaken reclaiming their former homeland, which makes it a story about rebuilding in the shadow of disaster.

Before entering: read a short recap of Lordaeron and the Forsaken. See the lore primer.

3. Excavation Site: Wetlands

Where: above Whelgar's Excavation Site in the Wetlands, east of Menethil Harbor. Levels: about 26–31.

The Wetlands have long hinted at archaeology through ruins, digs and dwarven activity. This dungeon takes you deeper than the surface dig sites. Some beta guides list a slightly lower range of 24–29, so rely on the in-game recommendation.

Before entering: unlock nearby travel routes and check for related quests.

4. City of Dalaran: when magic becomes the danger

Where: inside Dalaran, which the Kirin Tor are rebuilding in the Alterac Mountains. Levels: about 28–33. Factions: both.

Dalaran is the city of mages, and Blizzard has teased strange magical trouble inside it. Its bosses include an Arcane Anomaly, an Unstable Sentinel and the Shade of the Archmage. Alliance quests for the dungeon start in Stormwind City, where High Sorcerer Andromath sends adventurers after a Mana Elemental.

Before entering: Dalaran has no flight master, so plan your approach. The Alliance Dalaran Skycutter from Zephras Isle reaches its outskirts.

5. The Drowned City: pirates, naga and hidden histories

Where: the coast of Stranglethorn Vale. Levels: about 35–40.

Blizzard connects this dungeon to naga and pirate activity. It suits Forever's mix of geography, danger and competing interests. Wait for quest text and in-game journals before treating any theory about its history as fact.

6. Krol'dok Stronghold: a challenge for midlevel groups

Where: the Riverglades. Levels: about 40–45.

Midway through the journey, players have many questing zones and growing toolkits. Krol'dok tests whether your group can coordinate tougher pulls without relying on raw damage. The Riverglades connect by ship to Tanaris, which helps with travel.

7. Alcaz Prison: a darker high-level story

Where: Alcaz Island, off Dustwallow Marsh. Levels: about 48–53.

A prison dungeon invites questions about who is held there and why. Specific prisoners, villains and rewards should be added only once they are seen in the live game.

Before entering: gather your group before the trip and check the recommended level.

8. Blackmaw Hold: corruption in the depths

Where: Azshara. Levels: about 55–60.

Blizzard teases corruption stirring in the depths of Blackmaw Hold. Near the level cap, this is the kind of dangerous challenge that prepares a group for raids.

Before entering: bring class consumables and a group that can handle long, hard pulls.

9. Shaper's Terrace: a mystery in Un'Goro

Where: Un'Goro Crater. Levels: about 58–60.

Un'Goro is one of Azeroth's strangest landscapes, a place full of clues that the world is older than most adventurers realize. Blizzard has not published the specific story of Shaper's Terrace, so keep to the confirmed facts until players have seen it.

How to prepare for your first dungeon

Know your role. Tanks draw enemy attention and position dangerous foes. Healers keep the party alive and manage their mana. Damage dealers defeat enemies while respecting crowd control and target priorities.

Five habits improve almost every run:

  1. Agree on the route.
  2. Give the tank time to establish a pull.
  3. Do not use area damage near controlled enemies.
  4. Stop when the healer needs mana.
  5. Say so if you do not understand a mechanic.

If you wipe, talk through what went wrong instead of blaming the newest player. Check nearby quest hubs before you travel, because some rewards and story beats come from quests outside the dungeon.

Plan a dungeon session without wasting an hour

Start with your party's level range, not just the dungeon name. Decide whether the group wants quest completion, a first look at the story or a repeated run for gear. Collect dungeon quests first, then pick a leader.

Groups must share a ruleset and a faction. Cross-ruleset dungeon grouping is not supported, and Alliance and Horde cannot group, so a shared chat channel does not mean your characters can enter together. See the rulesets guide.

Why dungeon lore is worth learning

"Clear the Ruins of Lordaeron" and "confront the unresolved aftermath of a fallen kingdom" can describe the same fights, but the second makes them mean something. The free Lore Forever add-on gives you readable lore and narrated content where recorded, so you can find that context without leaving the game. The optional Willo Windows companion lets you ask questions by voice. Both are fan-made. Neither supplies loot tables or plays encounters for you.
