Orgrimmar Explained: Horde Capital, Valleys, Trainers and Ragefire Chasm

Orgrimmar is the Horde capital in northern Durotar, founded by Thrall after the Third War and named in honor of his mentor Orgrim Doomhammer. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), Warcraft Tavern says Orgrimmar remains unchanged, and it lists the level 13 to 18 dungeon Ragefire Chasm with Orgrimmar as its location.

Quick answer: Walk in from Durotar and you reach the Valley of Strength, the main hub by the Auction House. Class trainers are spread across the Valley of Honor, Valley of Spirits, Cleft of Shadow and Valley of Wisdom, and Thrall sits in Grommash Hold in the Valley of Wisdom. Warcraft Tavern's trainer guide lists no druid or paladin trainers in Orgrimmar.

Orgrimmar at a glance
Orgrimmar has six areas in this guide: the Valley of Strength is the main hub by the Auction House; the Drag takes cloth donations; the Valley of Honor has hunter and warrior trainers and the orc mount vendor; the Valley of Spirits has mage and priest trainers; the Valley of Wisdom holds Thrall in Grommash Hold and the shaman trainers; the Cleft of Shadow has rogue and warlock trainers and the way to Ragefire Chasm, levels 13 to 18.

Orgrimmar sits in valleys and caverns at the northern edge of Durotar. Horde players come here to train, to trade and to reach the dungeon Ragefire Chasm.

Key facts

  • Founder: Thrall, after the Third War, naming it for Orgrim Doomhammer (Warcraft Wiki, Wowpedia).
  • Ruler in the original game: Warchief Thrall, from Grommash Hold in the Valley of Wisdom (Wowpedia, Warcraft Wiki).
  • Dungeon: Ragefire Chasm, levels 13 to 18 (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Forever status: "Remains unchanged" (Warcraft Tavern).

Who founded Orgrimmar and why is it named that?

The city is a monument as much as a capital. Warcraft Wiki says that shortly after the Battle of Mount Hyjal, Thrall led his people to Kalimdor's eastern coast, named the land Durotar after his late father Durotan, and named the city after his friend and mentor Orgrim Doomhammer. Wowpedia agrees that Thrall founded the city and named it for Orgrim. Read the Thrall story, the Orgrim Doomhammer story and the orcs of Azeroth guide.

What are the districts of Orgrimmar?

Warcraft Tavern says Orgrimmar has six main areas. Its orc guide calls the Valley of Strength where most players gather, near the Auction House, and Wowpedia calls the central valley "the economic heart of the region", busy because of the auction house, bank, inn and flight master.

  • The Drag: Rashona Straglash takes cloth donations here for Orgrimmar reputation (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Valley of Honor: Many profession trainers work in the Drag or here, and Ogunaro Wolfrunner sells the orc mounts. Riders learn the skill from Kildar, whose location the guide does not give (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Valley of Wisdom: Warcraft Tavern's troll guide places Thrall and Vol'jin together in Grommash Hold here, and Vehena takes cloth for Darkspear reputation.
  • Cleft of Shadow: Warcraft Wiki places the rogue and warlock guilds and the way to Ragefire Chasm here.

Where are the class trainers in Orgrimmar?

Warcraft Tavern's class trainer guide maps them by district. Hunter and warrior trainers stand in the Valley of Honor. Mage and priest trainers, with the mage portal trainer, are in the Valley of Spirits. Rogue and warlock trainers are in the Cleft of Shadow. Shaman trainers are in the Valley of Wisdom.

The guide lists no druid or paladin trainers in Orgrimmar. It puts druid trainers for the Horde in Thunder Bluff on Elder Rise and says Horde paladin trainers "are all new and are limited to Deathknell, Brill, and the Bandarion Keep." See the Thunder Bluff guide, the Undercity guide and the class quests guide.

How do you travel to and from Orgrimmar?

Warcraft Tavern's orc guide says zeppelins from Durotar run to Stranglethorn Vale and Tirisfal Glades, and that Durotar leads straight to the Barrens. Wowpedia's Orgrimmar page and Warcraft Wiki's Thunder Bluff page list a zeppelin, but Warcraft Tavern's tauren guide says Forever has none and that players must make the trip on foot to connect flight paths. Check in game. See the Durotar guide and the Barrens guide.

Where is Ragefire Chasm in Orgrimmar?

Warcraft Tavern lists Ragefire Chasm at levels 13 to 18 with its location as Orgrimmar, and Warcraft Wiki places it in the Cleft of Shadow. See the Ragefire Chasm guide and the dungeons guide.

What changed in Orgrimmar in WoW Forever?

Warcraft Tavern says Orgrimmar remains unchanged in Forever, unlike its Alliance counterpart. Its October 1 beta post lists two small items, more Smooth Boulder spawns for the quest Rocks to Rests and a note that Shenthul now trains Windshaper Skyborne. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background as you stand in each place, and the optional Willo Windows companion answers lore questions by voice.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Hall of Legends: Warcraft Wiki's Orgrimmar page places it on a ledge overlooking the Valley of Strength, but that page also describes later redesigns, and no source I opened says whether the Hall is in Forever.
  • Inn, bank and flight master: Warcraft Tavern does not place them.
  • Beta data: The beta had a level 30 cap, and details may change.
