WoW Forever Durotar Quest Guide: Beginner Route and Story
Durotar is the Horde starting zone for orcs and trolls in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), where new characters spend levels 1 to 5 in the Valley of Trials, levels 5 to 10 around Razor Hill and Sen'jin Village, and then move on to the Barrens. Warcraft Wiki says the original zone remains in Forever. No source has published Forever-specific Durotar changes, so this guide follows the original quest line.
Quick answer: Start with Kaltunk and Gornek in the Valley of Trials, then head to Razor Hill and Sen'jin Village, and report to Orgrimmar when the quests send you there. After level 10 the Barrens is next. Ragefire Chasm sits beneath Orgrimmar and is listed at levels 13 to 19.

- Starting races: Orcs and trolls both begin in the Valley of Trials (Warcraft Wiki, Classic-era page).

Where do orcs and trolls start in Durotar?
Both races start in the Valley of Trials, which Warcraft Wiki calls the beginning area for orcs and trolls. The main quest giver there is Gornek. Zureetha Fargaze sends young orcs and trolls out into the wider world, per the wiki's Classic-era zone page.
The wiki's quest guide says new characters usually spend levels 1 to 5 here, then levels 5 to 10 in the main part of Durotar, before moving to the Barrens. Its prerequisite listings show the opening chain: Your Place In The World from Kaltunk, then Cutting Teeth from Gornek, which unlocks many class and early quests. Warcraft Wiki also lists Kaltunk, Foreman Thazz'ril, Hana'zua and Zureetha Fargaze among the key NPCs.
What is the best quest order in Durotar?
The wiki gives no single best route, but its quest links show how the hubs connect.
- Sen'jin Village: Burning Blade Medallion leads to Report to Sen'jin Village, then Report to Orgnil. Master Gadrin and Vel'rin Fang are among the NPCs.
- Razor Hill: Vanquish the Betrayers leads to From The Wreckage..... A second chain runs Dark Storms, then Margoz, Skull Rock, Neeru Fireblade and Ak'Zeloth. Gar'thok, Orgnil Soulscar, Margoz and Tarshaw Jaggedscar, the Warrior trainer, are here.
- Orgrimmar: Hidden Enemies from Thrall is part of a chain, and several quests there tie to Neeru Fireblade and Kor'ghan. Some happen at the Cleft of Shadow. Need for a Cure is found inside a rock formation west of the entrance.
Do the Valley of Trials, then the Razor Hill and Sen'jin loops together. Take the Orgrimmar chains when the quests point you there. For a longer plan across both continents, use the Horde leveling zones guide and the first 10 levels guide.
Who are the key NPCs in Durotar?
- Kaltunk and Gornek (Valley of Trials): Kaltunk gives Your Place In The World, and Gornek gives Cutting Teeth.
- Gar'thok and Orgnil Soulscar (Razor Hill): run the town's quests.
- Master Gadrin (Sen'jin Village): leads the effort to retake the Echo Isles from the troll sorcerer Zalazane.
- Thrall (Orgrimmar): the Warchief, who seeks to remove the Shadow Council's leaders.
- Neeru Fireblade and Kor'ghan (Orgrimmar): give the Cleft of Shadow quests.
These roles come from Warcraft Wiki's Classic-era zone and quest pages. The Burning Blade Coven appears as a subregion of the Valley of Trials area, but the wiki gives no further detail.
What is the story of Durotar?
Warcraft Wiki, Wowpedia and Wowhead all say Thrall named Durotar after his murdered father, Durotan, when he settled the orcs there. Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia both say the Darkspear trolls once lived on the Echo Isles until the sorcerer Zalazane betrayed them, and that they then founded Sen'jin Village on the coast. Both wikis also say the Burning Blade clan invaded Durotar roughly three years after the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
The sources differ on the exact timing. Warcraft Wiki says Thrall led the orcs there after the Battle of Mount Hyjal in year 21 after the Dark Portal and that Orgrimmar was established by year 25. Wowpedia says a Burning Crusade manual implies year 23 or 24. In short, Durotar was founded in the early years after the Third War, before Forever's setting. For the leader behind it, read the Thrall story and the orcs of Azeroth guide. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background as you stand in each place. The optional Willo Windows companion lets you ask lore questions by voice.
