Thunder Bluff Explained: Tauren Capital, Rises, Trainers and How to Reach It
Thunder Bluff is the tauren capital in Mulgore, a city on towering mesas founded by Cairne Bloodhoof after the tauren drove back the centaur. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), Warcraft Tavern says it is based on the original game's city and calls it the most convenient Horde capital.
Quick answer: From the plains, the lifts are the ground entrances, and wind riders also reach the city. The central mesa holds the Auction House, Inn and Bank, with the flight master a short walk away. Druid trainers are on Elder Rise, hunter and warrior trainers on Hunter Rise, and mage, priest and shaman trainers on Spirit Rise.

Four mesas rise above the Mulgore plains, joined by wood-and-rope bridges, with the Wind Rider Roost on top of a central totem pole. Warcraft Wiki says the tauren had been nomads for generations before Cairne built this refuge on a windswept mesa.

Who founded Thunder Bluff?
The city grew out of a victory. Warcraft Wiki says Cairne Bloodhoof and his tribe founded it after the Third War, with Thrall and the New Horde helping them drive out the centaur and claim Mulgore, and Wowpedia says the tauren had lived as nomads for countless generations before it was built. A 2007 Wikipedia snapshot adds that the tauren did this with orc help. The Cairne Bloodhoof story tells the rest, and the Mulgore guide covers the plains below.
What are the rises of Thunder Bluff?
Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia describe a central mesa split into the Lower, Middle and High Rises, joined by rope bridges to three more mesas.
- Lower Rise: The bank, inn, Auction House and a fishing hole, according to both wikis.
- Middle Rise: Both wikis list no facilities.
- High Rise: East of the Wind Rider Roost, per both wikis.
- Elder Rise: Warcraft Wiki says the elder druid Hamuul Runetotem can always be found here.
- Spirit Rise: Warcraft Wiki places the cave to the Pools of Vision here.
- Wind Rider Roost: In the central totem pole, with Wind Rider Master Tal, per both wikis.
Where are the class trainers in Thunder Bluff?
Warcraft Tavern's class trainer guide lists them by rise. Druid trainers are on Elder Rise. Hunter and warrior trainers, with the hunter pet trainer, are on Hunter Rise. Mage, priest and shaman trainers, with the mage portal trainer, are on Spirit Rise. It lists no paladin, rogue or warlock trainers here. Tauren can play druid, hunter, shaman or warrior, and Warcraft Tavern says that is unchanged from the original game. See the Orgrimmar guide for the other Horde trainers.
How do you reach Thunder Bluff?
Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia say the only entrances from the plains are the lifts on the southwestern and northeastern sides, and wind riders also reach the mesas. Warcraft Tavern says Forever has no zeppelin to Orgrimmar, so players walk between the two capitals to link their flight paths. Warcraft Wiki's page and Wowpedia's Orgrimmar page still list a zeppelin, and Warcraft Wiki dates its docking ramp to 2009, which is after the original game. Check in game.
What is different in WoW Forever?
Warcraft Tavern says the Auction House, Inn, Bank, mailbox and repair vendor sit on the central mesa and recommends setting your Hearthstone here as a Horde player. Its October 1 beta post notes new barbershops in Thunder Bluff and Darnassus. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background as you stand in each place, and the optional Willo Windows companion answers lore questions by voice. For the road to the city read the Horde leveling zones guide.
What is not confirmed yet
- Zeppelin: Sources conflict, as above.
- Rise facilities: The wikis mix original-game and later-expansion details, and Warcraft Tavern gives only the central mesa and flight master for Forever.
- Beta data: The beta had a level 30 cap, and details may change.
