WoW Forever Mulgore Quest Guide: Camp Narache, Bloodhoof Village and Kodo Rock

Mulgore is the tauren starting zone in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), a land of plains and mesas in Kalimdor where new characters spend levels 1 to 5 around Camp Narache on Red Cloud Mesa, levels 5 to 10 around Bloodhoof Village, and then travel on to the Barrens. Warcraft Wiki says the original zone remains in Forever. No source has published Forever-specific Mulgore quest changes apart from one added quest, so this guide follows the original quest line.

Quick answer: Start at Camp Narache with Chief Hawkwind, finish the Rites of the Earthmother and the hunt, then move to Bloodhoof Village for the poisoned wells and the Venture Co. quests. Kodo Rock lies between Camp Narache and Brambleblade Ravine. After level 10 the Barrens is next.

Mulgore quest route from Camp Narache to the Barrens
Route in order: Camp Narache and Red Cloud Mesa levels 1 to 5, Bloodhoof Village levels 5 to 10 with the water wells and the Venture Co. quests, Thunder Bluff for services, then the road east to the Barrens after level 10.

Mulgore is the kind of country that makes a long road feel short. The grass runs to the horizon and the mesas stand out of it like old ships. The early quests send you on a hunt, through a rite and along a slow road toward the village by the lake, and nothing about the pace asks you to hurry.

Key facts

Where do tauren start in Mulgore?

Camp Narache stands on Red Cloud Mesa. Warcraft Wiki calls it the main training camp for young tauren, and Chief Hawkwind sends promising ones out from here. Grull Hawkwind, Seer Graytongue and Seer Ravenfeather are among the quest givers on the mesa. The quest table also names the class trainers you meet at level 10: Krang Stonehoof (Warrior) and Kary Thunderhorn (Hunter) in Thunder Bluff, and Yaw Sharpmane (Hunter), Narm Skychaser and Xanis Flameweaver (Shaman) and Gennia Runetotem (Druid) in Bloodhoof Village.

The opening chains are The Hunt Begins, The Hunt Continues and The Battleboars, and a second chain that runs from A Humble Task through Rites of the Earthmother, Rite of Strength, Rite of Vision and finally Rite of Wisdom. Mein-MMO adds that each race has an early bag quest and that tauren begin theirs at level 1 in Mulgore. See the first 10 levels checklist for the wider plan.

What is the best quest order in Mulgore?

Warcraft Wiki gives no single route, but its quest links and an older questing guide agree on the shape. Finish Camp Narache, walk the road to Bloodhoof Village, and make it your base. The old guide says you should be level 6 by the time you arrive.

  • Bloodhoof Village: Mull Thunderhorn starts Poison Water, which leads to the Winterhoof, Thunderhorn and Wildmane cleansings. Ahab Wheathoof and Harken Windtotem are also quest givers here.
  • Venture Co. mine and caravan: Morin Cloudstalker sends you against the goblins through Ravaged Caravan and The Venture Co.
  • Thunder Bluff and the Red Rocks: The Hunter's Way starts on Hunter Rise, and A Sacred Burial at the Red Rocks leads into Journey into Thunder Bluff. The questing guide goes to Thunder Bluff, returns to Bloodhoof Village by Hearthstone, and only then heads for the Barrens.

That guide is marked outdated and was last edited in August 2020, so use it for order, not for numbers. Blizzard's October 1 beta notes, as reprinted by Warcraft Tavern, say the quest Kyle's Gone Missing! was added in Mulgore. For the next leg read the Horde leveling zones guide.

Where is Kodo Rock in Mulgore?

Kodo Rock is a natural monument near Camp Narache. Warcraft Wiki says to travel from Camp Narache straight toward Brambleblade Ravine and that the rock sits about halfway along that line, marked by a small dirt area on the minimap. It can only be seen from a short distance. Warcraft Wiki says tauren Shamans had to visit it for an early quest, though the page does not name the quest. The wiki lists Kodo Rock among Mulgore's subzones and says it was removed in the live game but remains in Classic and Forever. No second source we could read describes it, so treat the location as one source's description.

What is the story of Mulgore?

Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia agree on the outline. Cairne Bloodhoof led the nomadic tauren to Mulgore, and Wowpedia says Thrall's orcs escorted them. Warcraft Wiki says they founded Thunder Bluff there. Centaur raiders were a constant threat. Warcraft Wiki says the tauren now have Horde support, and Wowpedia says they drove the centaur back with orc help. Both also say the goblin Venture Company seized the three sacred water wells (Thunderhorn, Wildmane and Winterhoof, per Wowpedia) and, per Warcraft Wiki, the Venture Co. Mine.

Quilboar hold Brambleblade Ravine and the Red Rocks, and Windfury harpies claim the northern reaches, according to Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia. Warcraft Wiki also puts the Palemane gnolls at Palemane Rock. For the leader behind it, read the Cairne Bloodhoof story, the Thrall story and the orcs of Azeroth guide. New players will also notice Shen'dralas, a Forever zone that sources place between Mulgore and Desolace. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background as you stand in each place, and the optional Willo Windows companion answers lore questions by voice.

What is different about Mulgore in WoW Forever?

Warcraft Tavern's tauren overview lists the Forever changes that touch the starting experience. Tauren gain a new racial, Plainsrunning, a movement speed buff that grows the longer you move. Nature Resistance was removed, and a toggle in Graphics Settings switches between Standard and High Definition models. The first kodo is sold by Harb Clawhoof in Bloodhoof Village, and you learn Riding from Kar Stormsinger at level 40. Thunder Bluff's central mesa holds the Auction House, Inn, Bank and a Flight Master nearby, and Warcraft Tavern says its Forever layout follows Classic, so there is no zeppelin to Orgrimmar and you walk between the two capitals to link their flight paths.
