WoW Forever Hunter Leveling Guide: Spec, Pets, Abilities by Level and Gear
The best-supported way to level a Hunter in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is Beast Mastery with a tamed pet from level 10, and both Warcraft Tavern and Method say so. Warcraft Tavern says Beast Mastery "offers the smoothest levelling experience," and Method calls it "our preferred option for leveling," especially for solo players.
Quick answer: Use Auto Shot and Raptor Strike until level 10, kite when you can, then tame a pet with the class quest and level as Beast Mastery. Train Growl, keep your pet fed and healed with Mend Pet, stock ammo, and from level 25 add a second hawk with Summon Hawk. Both guides were written for a beta capped at level 30.

What should you do before level 10?
Warcraft Tavern says early levels rely on Auto Shot and Raptor Strike, and recommends kiting. At level 1 you get Track Beasts and Raptor Strike, at 4 Aspect of the Monkey and Serpent Sting, at 6 Arcane Shot and Hunter's Mark, and at 8 Concussive Shot. Method's tip is to maximize your Auto Shots and let your pet get a few attacks in first once you have one. Read leveling 10 to 30 for zones, and the first 10 levels checklist for the starting areas.
How do you get your first pet?
At level 10 you learn Tame Beast and start a taming quest chain. Warcraft Tavern lists taming quests in Teldrassil, Dun Morogh, Zephras Isle, Mulgore and Durotar, and says the chain ends with the Beast Training class quest, after which Feed Pet, Revive Pet, Dismiss Pet and Call Pet are available. Warcraft Tavern says pet trainers can often be found near the class trainers and gives per-faction location tables. Aspect of the Hawk also comes at 10. Method says to train Growl, Great Stamina and Natural Armor, and Warcraft Tavern notes that Growl supports Beast Mastery leveling. Which abilities arrive when?
Warcraft Tavern lists these unlocks:
- Level 12: Mend Pet and Wing Clip (Method also recommends Mend Pet).
- Level 18: Multi-Shot.
- Level 20: Aimed Shot, Aspect of the Cheetah and Freezing Trap.
- Level 25: Summon Hawk (Beast Mastery talent) or Trueshot Aura (Marksmanship).
- Level 26: Rapid Fire.
- Level 28: Frost Trap.
- Level 30: Feign Death and others.
Method's list is not identical: it shows Track Hidden at level 24, which Warcraft Tavern's list does not, and it gives pet Dash at 30 through Wild Taming (taming a pet that already knows it), so check your trainer when a spell is missing. Method calls Aimed Shot one of its primary single-target damage abilities and Rapid Fire your first real cooldown, with a 5-minute cooldown.
What changes at level 25?
Method calls Summon Hawk a new ability in Forever, learned as a talent at level 25, and says to ideally keep two hawks and your normal pet out at all times, recasting a hawk only near the end of its duration. The hawks last 18 seconds and the spell shares a 6-second cooldown with Arcane Shot. Warcraft Tavern's Beast Mastery rotation casts Arcane Shot once two hawks are up with at least 6 seconds left.
What ranged weapon and ammo should you use?
Keep ammo stocked, and upgrade your ranged weapon as you go. Warcraft Tavern's list by level:
- Barbaric Crossbow: Ragefire Chasm, levels 13 to 16.
- Calibrated Blunderbuss: Hall of Thanes quest, Alliance only.
- Venomstrike: Wailing Caverns, levels 19 to 22.
- Naga Heartpiercer: Blackfathom Deeps, levels 22 to 29.
- Fallenroot Longbow: Blackfathom Deeps, levels 23 to 29.
- Quilboar Blaster: Razorfen Kraul quest, levels 29 to 30.
- Master Hunter's Bow: The Big Game Hunter quest at 30.

What else is different in Forever?
Warcraft Tavern lists new and improved pet abilities, and says Scorpid Sting now lowers the target's chance to hit by 2 percent for 20 seconds. It says early Leatherworking recipes were overhauled and First Aid can craft health potions, and that Legacy gives 5 additional talent points in the beta.
