"...and that note you found" in WoW Forever: Where It Starts and What It Leads To

"...and that note you found" is the first quest of the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever): it starts at a pile of Burned-Out Remains, at Alexston Farmstead in Westfall for Alliance and at a burned tower south of Camp Taurajo in the Barrens for Horde, and it needs character level 14. It is step 1 of 6 in Warcraft Wiki's progression, which passes through Stonetalon Mountains and Loch Modan and ends at a bag you can sleep in.

Quick answer: Both factions have their own version of the quest. Click the Burned-Out Remains, find the opposite faction's Burned-Out Remains, then follow Stepping Stones, Scramble, Wet Job, Eagle's Fist and This Must Be The Place. Sources disagree on the quest's level and experience.

The "...and that note you found" quest chain in WoW Forever
Six steps in order: the note quest starts at Burned-Out Remains in Westfall or the Barrens, Stepping Stones at Pocket Litter in Stonetalon Mountains at 40.8, 52.5, Scramble at the Mound of Dirt, Wet Job at Loch Modan at 49.5, 12.8, Eagle's Fist, and This Must Be The Place, which gives the Cozy Sleeping Bag; Warcraft Wiki lists the note quest at level 40 and ForeverChanges at level 22.

ConquestCapped says the chain has no NPCs to talk to: every step is a small clickable object in the world.

Key facts

  • Versions: One Alliance and one Horde, both tagged New in Forever (Gamer Guides).
  • Start: Burned-Out Remains. Gfinity Esports puts the Alliance start at the cart wreckage in Alexston Farmstead, Westfall, and the Horde start at a burning tower south of Camp Taurajo in the Barrens.
  • Minimum level: 14 (ConquestCapped, Warcraft Wiki).

Where do you start the quest?

You start at the Burned-Out Remains, and your faction decides which pile. Gfinity Esports says Alliance players find it at the cart wreckage in Alexston Farmstead in Westfall, and ConquestCapped gives 37, 50. Horde players find it in a burning scouting tower south of Camp Taurajo in the Barrens (46, 74 on ConquestCapped). Warcraft Wiki's Alliance page is less clear: it files the quest under Westfall but its notes say to locate the Burned-Out Remains in the Barrens. See the Westfall guide and the Barrens guide.

What do you do after the first Burned-Out Remains?

You go to the opposite faction's pile. Gfinity Esports says the Alliance route (see the travel guide) runs through Duskwood and Stranglethorn Vale to Booty Bay, then by boat to Ratchet and the Burned Tower. For Horde it describes the trip to the cart wreckage at Alexston Farmstead. The guide warns of high-level enemies on the way to Stranglethorn Vale. Warcraft Wiki's Stepping Stones page describes this as the scavenger hunt continuing after you find the opposite faction's Burned-Out Remains.

What are the six quests, in order?

Warcraft Wiki's order is "...and that note you found", Stepping Stones, Scramble (with optional Rekindle), Wet Job, Eagle's Fist and This Must Be The Place.

  • Stepping Stones: Ends at Pocket Litter in Stonetalon Mountains at 40.8, 52.5 (Warcraft Wiki). Forever gives 1,950 XP and 4 silver, with a choice of Mining Pick or Farmer's Shovel (Warcraft Wiki).
  • Scramble: Pocket Litter gives it and the Mound of Dirt at 39.6, 49.9 ends it. Warcraft Wiki lists 200 XP in Forever and 435 in Season of Discovery.
  • Wet Job: The Mound of Dirt at 39.6, 49.9 gives it, and the Carved Figurine in Loch Modan at 49.5, 12.8 ends it. Forever gives 2,550 XP and 30 silver (Warcraft Wiki).
  • Eagle's Fist: The Carved Figurine gives it and the Messenger Bag ends it. Warcraft Wiki lists 3,150 XP without a Forever split.
  • This Must Be The Place: Forever gives 1,950 XP, 8 silver, the Cozy Sleeping Bag and Student Fodder (Warcraft Wiki).

Warcraft Wiki places the final Messenger Bag in Arathi Highlands at 22.5, 24.2, under the category Thoradin's Wall. Gfinity Esports and ConquestCapped both say Hillsbrad Foothills. ConquestCapped adds the sub-name Thoradin's Wall, which is also Warcraft Wiki's category.

Why do the level and XP numbers disagree?

The pages appear to describe different versions of the quest. Warcraft Wiki's page for the Alliance quest lists level 40, required level 14, 3,150 XP and 25 silver, with a Swiftness Potion and a Strong Troll's Blood Elixir, and says the quest is exclusive to Season of Discovery. It does not mention Forever. ForeverChanges' Westfall table lists the Alliance quest as New at level 22, required level 14, 1,750 XP, with a Swiftness Potion and a Lesser Troll's Blood Elixir. Warcraft Wiki's pages for Stepping Stones, Scramble, Wet Job and This Must Be The Place do carry separate Forever XP values, so the note page may simply not have been updated for Forever; the wiki does not say.

What does the Cozy Sleeping Bag do?

It is a bed you carry. Gfinity Esports describes a portable rested area for logging out, and ConquestCapped says resting inside grants 1% bonus experience per minute, stacking up to 3%, with a one-hour buff and a one-hour cooldown. See the rested XP guide.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Quest level and XP: 40 and 3,150 on Warcraft Wiki, 22 and 1,750 on ForeverChanges.
  • Final location: Arathi Highlands on Warcraft Wiki, Hillsbrad Foothills on two guides.
