WoW Forever Hunter Pets: How to Tame, Train, Feed and Keep Your Pet Happy
Hunters in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) begin taming at level 10, when the Hunter trainer offers a chain of three taming quests that ends with Tame Beast and the Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet abilities. According to Warcraft Tavern's Forever hunter pets guide, only beasts at your level or lower can be tamed.
Quick answer: Reach level 10, finish the three taming quests, then tame a beast with no pet active. Feed it to keep it happy, spend Training Points through Beast Training, and expect to hold three pets in total: one active and two stabled. Happiness was bugged in the beta.

A hunter walks the wilds with a companion at the heel, and every companion had to be won in the wilds first. In Azeroth that bargain begins with a trainer's errand and a beast that has not yet decided to trust you.

How do you tame a pet in WoW Forever?
Taming is a quest before it is a spell. Warcraft Tavern says the first quest in the chain comes from your Hunter trainer at level 10 and varies by race, and that you must complete three quests, each sending you to tame a specific beast. Finishing them teaches Tame Beast. The last quest, named Training the Beast (Taming the Beast for Skyborne), unlocks Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet.
Method's Forever hunter guide, updated October 21, 2026, agrees that Call Pet is available at level 10 and that Growl, Great Stamina and Natural Armor are your first pet abilities. For the class itself, see the Hunter guide and the Hunter talent build.
What are the rules of taming?
Taming is a channel, and a channel can break. Warcraft Tavern lists these rules:
- Only beasts at your level or lower can be tamed.
- You cannot tame while you have an active pet, even a dismissed one, or while a dead pet sits in your stable.
- Your armor is reduced by 100% while you channel Tame Beast.
- The tame fails if you lose aggro or the beast takes damage during the channel, and other players must not attack it.
- Aspect of the Monkey, Freezing Trap and Concussive Shot help, per the guide.
How do pets level, learn abilities and stay happy?
A pet has its own experience bar, says Warcraft Tavern, and gains it by fighting alongside you rather than from rested or quest XP. It receives 25% of the XP you earn from each mob that is green level or higher, and it stops gaining XP once it reaches your level.
Happiness is a hidden value that falls over time, so feed your pet. Happy pets deal 125% damage, content pets 100% and unhappy pets 75%. The guide adds that you cannot feed in combat and that Dismiss Pet reduces happiness by 50.
For abilities, Warcraft Tavern's loyalty guide says pets have six loyalty ranks, from Rebellious up to Best Friend, and gain Training Points as loyalty grows. You spend them through the Beast Training spell, and a pet can have up to four active abilities. Warcraft Tavern says you can teach your pet an ability by taming a beast that knows it, using that ability in combat until you get a chat confirmation, then teaching it through Beast Training. Method describes the same trick for Dash, a level 30 pet ability that gives 40% movement speed for 15 seconds.
How many pets can a hunter keep?
Warcraft Tavern says Stable Masters store pets without abandoning them, and you can buy up to two additional stable slots, for a maximum of three pets: one active and two stabled. Stabled pets can be swapped at any friendly Stable Master.
What is different in WoW Forever?
Warcraft Tavern marks pet scaling as Forever-specific: pets receive 10% of your total Attack Power and 100% of your critical strike chance, and Focus regenerates continuously rather than in chunks. The Lore Forever add-on is a free, fan-made companion for zone background; see downloads. For the zones where beasts roam, read the leveling guide and the Barrens guide.
What is not confirmed yet
- Warcraft Tavern's pet pages show no publication date and call happiness bugged on the beta, so launch behavior may differ.
- The pet abilities page calls Growl the only active pet ability from a Pet Trainer but also lists it among passive abilities.
- Food lists, pet families and exact loyalty thresholds are not given in the pages opened.
- Method's guide does not discuss Beast Training, feeding or happiness, so those rules rest on Warcraft Tavern alone.
