WoW Forever Hunter Talent Build: Best Leveling Spec and Skill Tree (1–30)

For leveling a Hunter in WoW Forever, Warcraft Tavern, Mobalytics and Method all recommend Beast Mastery, and Warcraft Tavern says it "offers the smoothest levelling experience." Talent points start at level 10, and the beta's level 30 Hunter builds spend 26 points, which includes 5 free points from the Talented Legacy perk.

Quick answer: Level as Beast Mastery. Take pet-focused talents first, add Summon Hawk at level 25 and Intimidation at level 30. Marksmanship and Survival work but are harder to level, and Marksmanship makes it harder to keep threat on your pet. All of this comes from the beta, which stopped at level 30.

Hunter level 30 builds and the Beast Mastery order
Hunter talent builds: Beast Mastery 26/0/0 is recommended; Mobalytics orders its talents Deadly Aspects, Focused Fire, Pathfinding, Bestial Swiftness at level 20, Unleashed Fury, Summon Hawk at level 25, Ferocity and Intimidation at level 30.

Key facts

  • First talent point: level 10 (Warcraft Tavern). The Talented perk can move it earlier; see talents explained.
  • Recommended build: Beast Mastery, 26/0/0 including 5 Legacy points (Mobalytics).
  • Beast Mastery milestones: Summon Hawk at 25, Intimidation and Bestial Discipline at 30, Bestial Wrath at 40 (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Marksmanship milestones: Lone Wolf at 20, Trueshot Aura at 25, Rapid Recuperation at 30, Sniper Shot at 40 (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Pet taming: Tame Beast and Beast Training come from the level 10 class quest (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Pet scaling: pets receive 10% of your Attack Power and 100% of your Critical Strike Chance (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Respec fee: sources disagree. Allthings.how (September 21) lists 1 gold, then 5 gold, rising to a 50 gold cap; Warcraft Tavern (September 24) reports a temporary beta cost of 1 silver. The launch fee is unconfirmed.

Which talent tree should a Hunter level in?

Warcraft Tavern's leveling guide gives Beast Mastery, Marksmanship and Survival builds and recommends Beast Mastery, saying its pet focus is what makes it the recommended build. Mobalytics calls Beast Mastery "the recommended spec to level with." Method's author prefers Beast Mastery too, especially for solo play, and says it lowers death risk compared with other damage specs.

Warcraft Tavern says Survival can be challenging to level, and offers two playstyles for it, melee weaving or full melee. Read the Hunter beginner guide for pets and abilities, and the best solo class ranking for context.

What does the Beast Mastery leveling order look like?

Mobalytics gives a level-by-level order for its 21 earned points: Deadly Aspects (5 points) at levels 10 to 14, Focused Fire (2) at 15 to 16, Pathfinding (2) at 18 to 19, Bestial Swiftness at 20, Unleashed Fury (4 points) at 21 to 24, Summon Hawk at 25, the fifth Unleashed Fury point at 26, Ferocity (3 points) at 27 to 29 and Intimidation at 30. It spends the 5 Talented points on 2 more Ferocity, 2 Bestial Discipline and 1 Frenzy, to raise pet critical chance and restore mana and focus. Mobalytics' table and text disagree on whether Improved Revive Pet comes at level 17 or 19.

Warcraft Tavern's leveling guide names Bestial Swiftness, Ferocity, Intimidation and Frenzy for its level 30 build but does not mention Deadly Aspects. Method differs on Ferocity: it recommends a second point in Improved Revive Pet for survivability and calls Ferocity a relatively small damage buff. Method frames that second Improved Revive Pet point as the survivability option.

Why is Marksmanship harder to level?

Warcraft Tavern's Marksmanship build names Efficiency, Improved Concussive Shot, Scatter Shot and Rapid Recuperation, and says Rapid Recuperation sits much further down the tree, so it arrives late. It advises against taking Lone Wolf (a new Forever talent) while leveling, and says Marksmanship makes it harder to keep threat on your pet. The guide adds that the alternative builds may require more careful positioning, crowd control and ability management.

How should talents and pets work together?

Pets matter more in Forever: Warcraft Tavern's talent page says pets get 10% of your Attack Power and all of your critical strike chance, and that Hunters can now use traps in combat. Mobalytics highly recommends a cat for leveling and says a happy pet deals 125% of normal damage. In dungeons, Mobalytics says to turn off your pet's Growl before pulling so enemies do not turn on you instead of the tank. Warcraft Tavern warns that Scare Beast can run enemies into nearby packs.

Can you change your Hunter build later?

Yes. Your class trainer in your race's capital city resets talents. The price has moved: allthings.how (updated September 21) lists 1 gold for the first reset, 5 gold for the second and a 50 gold cap, while Warcraft Tavern (September 24) says the beta cost is now 1 silver if you have not recently changed talents, and calls that temporary. The launch fee is unconfirmed. If you want story context while you hunt, the free Lore Forever add-on shows zone and quest background; it is fan-made.

What is not confirmed yet

  • The beta stopped at level 30. Warcraft Tavern and Method say level 60 talent sections will be added later.
  • Resourcefulness, a Survival talent, is bugged on the beta and does not proc from crits as its tooltip says (Warcraft Tavern).
  • Warcraft Tavern says it is too early to say how Forever's balance changes will play out at end game, and how Marksmanship talents scale late is undetermined.
  • Warcraft Tavern's pages mention a beta cap of level 20 rising to 30, so older passages may predate the current cap.
  • Mobalytics' Improved Revive Pet level conflict (17 or 19) is unresolved.
