WoW Forever Launch Day for Veterans: What to Do First
For Classic and modern WoW veterans, World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) opens on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST in the same first-year Azeroth with the same level 60 cap, but you pick a ruleset instead of a realm, and the guides below say to settle ruleset, faction and name first, then relearn gear, professions and dungeon habits.
Quick answer: Agree your ruleset and faction with your group before anyone creates a character, have backup names, and expect crowded starter zones. Do not trust old best-in-slot lists. The three raids open December 9, not on day one.

Key facts
- Launch: November 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST, 23:00 UTC (Blizzard)
- Setting: early "Year 1", before Kazzak reopened the Dark Portal; level cap 60 (Blizzard)
- Realms: no realm list; you pick Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP, with Hardcore later (Blizzard)
- Raids: Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair open December 9 for level 60 (Blizzard)
- Skyborne: needs the Heroic Pack or higher (Blizzard)
What is the same, and what is different, on day one?
Blizzard says Forever is built from the original level 1 to 60 world with more than 1,000 new quests, four new zones, nine new dungeons and six new race and class combinations. Blizzard's "What's New and What's the Same" blog, as reposted by Wowhead, says a familiar class name "is a starting point, not a guarantee" of the same build, and lists Advanced options such as a Cooldown Manager and Damage Meter. Classic and Enhanced are default presets, not skill levels. See for Classic veterans, for modern WoW players and differences from Classic.
Which choices cannot wait: ruleset, faction and name?
Blizzard says characters group, join guilds, run dungeons and raid only with players on the same ruleset and faction, and tells friends and guilds to agree on both before creating characters. Players on PvP rulesets are restricted to one faction, and Blizzard Support says that on the PvP ruleset creation is temporarily restricted for the dominant faction when one is significantly more dominant. Names have two parts that must be unique in your region, first come, first served; early reservation for pre-purchasers ran from October 27 through November 3 (PST). See rulesets and can you switch rulesets.
What do named guides say to do after that?
- Starting zone: Method (November 2) says any character can start in any starting zone of its faction, though almost all Horde Paladin trainers are in Undead zones, so Undead Paladins and Dwarf Shamans may prefer their own.
- Gear: mein-mmo's beta-era guide (October 21) says old best-in-slot lists no longer apply, hit and critical strike apply automatically, and quest rewards were improved.
- Professions: mein-mmo suggests two complementary professions, or two gathering ones, leveled alongside the character.
- Dungeons: Method says dungeon XP from quests rose and from mobs fell, so run each dungeon once with its quests; ad hoc groups plus solo questing are the fastest way to level.
- Interface: Blizzard's November 2 notes say new spells no longer reach your bars automatically and bags no longer equip themselves.
What does Blizzard say about layering and queues?
Less than veterans may want. mein-mmo's October 30 summary (in German) of Blizzard's podcast says layer switches can never be fully avoided and that unrequested switches on joining a group are planned to stop; in it, Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield says Durotar will be overrun at launch while Orgrimmar is nearly empty. Blizzard's notes say respawn rates were adjusted for launch crowds; no source gives queue numbers. See layering and launch day queues and errors.
What is not confirmed yet
- Queue lengths and whether the layering fixes work at launch.
- Whether a faction limit applies on PvP rulesets on November 4.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
Veterans who skipped the story of the first-year era can get it from the free Lore Forever add-on, which is fan-made: per-NPC and per-quest stories, a Lore button on quests and recorded narration, kept to the first year of WoW per its FAQ. Willo answers quick questions mid-session: hold her talk key and ask. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, runs on Windows 10 or 11 and, per her page, Apple Silicon Macs (her FAQ still says Windows, and I could not confirm every feature on Mac), and can be wrong. Live game info must be on in both the add-on and Willo for her to see your quest, a Hero-and-up feature after the first days per her Plans page.
