WoW Forever Launch Day for Beginners: What to Do on Nov 4
On November 4, 2026, World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) opens at 3:00 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC), and a beginner's first day runs in this order: an active subscription or Game Time, the Battle.net install, a style and a ruleset, a two-part name and a class, then your first quests. Blizzard says access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.
Quick answer: Finish the account and install steps tonight: TimeSaver quotes a Battle.net notice listing maintenance from 10:00 a.m. PST on launch day. After 3:00 p.m., take Enhanced if unsure (Blizzard's advice), Normal if you want a welcoming ruleset, then read your quests. Expect crowds.

Everyone arriving on the first evening stands at the same gates, and the menus decide how the road begins.
Key facts
- Launch: Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST, which is 23:00 UTC (Blizzard, November 3)
- Access: included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time (Blizzard)
- First login: Experience Preset first, then Ruleset (Blizzard)
What should you have ready before 3:00 p.m. PST?
Blizzard's starter guide lists a Battle.net account, a subscription or Game Time, the Battle.net app with WoW: Forever chosen under Game Version, and Windows or Mac with a keyboard and mouse. Packs are optional; the Skyborne race needs the Heroic Pack or higher. A friend's Invite-A-Friend code gives access from November 4 to 11 without a subscription, but not the Skyborne (Blizzard Support). See how to download and install.
Install early. TimeSaver quotes a Battle.net app notice of maintenance from 10:00 a.m. PST until about 3:00 p.m., with the game unavailable for play, and Wowhead says about five hours; neither says downloads stop. Icy Veins and Wowhead say you can preload; TimeSaver says no pre-load date was announced for subscription-only players. Check your Battle.net app.
Which choices does the game ask first?
Blizzard says the first login asks for an Experience Preset before your ruleset. Classic means standard-definition models, with quest markers, one-bag and transmog off; Enhanced turns them on. "If you are not sure which to choose, start with Enhanced," Blizzard says, and you can change settings later under Game Menu > Options.
For the ruleset, Blizzard says "Normal offers a welcoming place to learn." Friends should agree on ruleset and faction first. See which ruleset to pick.
How do you choose a name?
Blizzard says each character has two names and the full combination must be unique in your region, first come, first served, so have a backup. Early name reservation, open to pre-purchasers, ran from October 27 through November 3 (PST) according to Blizzard, which gives no closing hour on the pages I opened. Without a reservation you choose names at launch. See name reservation errors.
Which class should a beginner choose?
GamerBlurb (September 18) calls Hunter its easiest recommendation for someone who has never played, because the pet takes pressure off, but says to start from the role you want; if torn, make both and play the early levels. Blizzard's tip: try another class if your first choice does not feel right. Our best class for beginners compares all nine.
What do you do in your first quests?
Blizzard's guide says an exclamation point marks a quest, L opens the quest log, M the map, and a question mark means turn in. Read the quest text and watch enemy levels off the road. Blizzard's development notes, updated November 2, add that new spells no longer land on your action bars automatically and bags no longer equip themselves. More in the first hour guide.
What if queues or errors appear?
Nobody outside Blizzard knows. The same notes say respawn rates were adjusted for launch crowds and "some contention for spawns is expected." See launch day queues and errors.
What is not confirmed yet
- Queue length and where Blizzard will post Forever status.
- Whether preloading works for every account.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The free Lore Forever add-on is fan-made: a Lore button on quests opens the quest's story. Willo is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and, per her page, Apple Silicon Macs, though her FAQ still says Windows and I could not confirm every feature on Mac. Hold her talk key and ask what to do next. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, can be wrong, and sees your quests only with the add-on and Live game info on in both (Hero and up after the first days, per her Plans page).
