WoW Forever Name Reservation Errors: What Each Message Means

Early name reservation for World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) opened on October 27, 2026 with a delayed Europe start, missing rulesets and a name-check bug that Blizzard says it is fixing, while no page I opened defines the error code WOW51900309. Reservation runs through November 3, and the game launches on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, according to Blizzard.

Quick answer: "That name is restricted" was a Blizzard bug: retry after your region's realm restart. Blizzard Support lists the population-imbalance and "throttled" messages but defines only the first, as a temporary restriction on the dominant faction in the PvP ruleset; players mostly reported them on Horde. What WOW51900309 means is unconfirmed. As of November 2, 2026.

The WoW Forever name reservation messages reported October 27 to November 2, 2026: the delay banner, no realms available with code WOW51900309, That name is restricted, throttled, and faction unavailable, with what sources say each means.

A name is the first banner you raise in a new land, and on the first night the gates opened slowly.

Key facts

  • Window: October 27 to November 3, 2026, for pre-purchasers, up to three characters across all rulesets (Blizzard, October 20)
  • Restricted-name bug: names containing "c-o-n" were wrongly blocked; fix with the next realm restarts in each region (Blizzard post, quoted by MassivelyOP)
  • Launch: November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, which is 23:00 UTC (Blizzard, October 29)

What happened on October 27 and 28?

At the European start, reservation did not open. Kami Labs saw a Blizzard banner say reservations were delayed while the team resolved final technical issues, with no new time. Wowhead's running update says rulesets were greyed out, Europe worked from 12:40 p.m. PDT, North America met queues and instant disconnects from 1:05 p.m. PDT, and missing rulesets were still reported at 2:30 p.m.

MassivelyOP reported on October 28 that most problems seemed ironed out and the missing Roleplaying and Roleplay-PvP rulesets had come online. Dexerto, also October 28, said Blizzard's fix would roll out with the next realm restarts in each region. Players connecting to Australian servers had a separate bug: Warcraft Tavern quotes Blizzard's Kaivax saying to create Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP characters first, or those rulesets vanish for later characters.

What does "That name is restricted" mean?

The restricted-name check refused your name. Blizzard says a bug made it "overly restrictive with some names," including those containing c-o-n (MassivelyOP). Dexerto lists Connor and Falcon as examples; FinalBoss says genuinely restricted names stay restricted. See the name-not-allowed fix and character name rules.

What do "no realms are currently available" and WOW51900309 mean?

Blizzard does not define either in any page I opened. Its Support article on reserving names lists a different code, WOW51900337, for "Access to this realm requires an account with valid access license," and does not list WOW51900309. A forum thread from October 27, "No realms available," describes a player who chose a ruleset and was sent back to the queue. WoWSoD Pro lists "No realms are currently available" with WOW51900309 among errors that recur in forum threads; that pairing is single-source and does not explain the code. The code also appears in a September 24 beta thread about a stuck server-select screen, with no Blizzard reply.

What does "creation of that type of character is currently throttled" mean?

Blizzard Support lists this message as a separate error from the population-imbalance one, "This faction is currently unavailable on this realm due to population imbalance," and does not explain the throttle text. For the imbalance message it says that on the PvP ruleset, if one faction is significantly more dominant, character creation is temporarily restricted for the dominant faction. Blizzard's October 22 ruleset article had pointed to Season of Discovery, where creation for a faction could be temporarily limited. Beyond that, sources differ. A forum thread from October 28 shows the throttle text; a November 2 thread has a player describing a faction lock on Horde and the throttle message on Alliance. TimeSaver says players link the throttle text to retrying too quickly. WoWSoD says it showed up on Horde on PvP and mostly cleared after waiting. Wowforeverdata still got the imbalance message on October 30 and says the lock may not be constant. See Horde or Alliance faction balance.

What can you do about name reservation errors?

  • Retry after your region's realm restart for "That name is restricted" (Dexerto).
  • Keep one of your three slots free and wait between attempts; TimeSaver and wowforeverdata report the lock flips on and off, and Kami Labs advises not hammering the button.
  • If a ruleset such as Roleplay-PvP is missing, Kami Labs reports a launcher banner on October 27 saying to pick another ruleset first, then click Rulesets in the top bar.
  • After "Character creation timed out," check your character list before assuming the name saved (FinalBoss).
  • Do not expect a manual unlock: Blizzard Support says Customer Support cannot help bypass the faction restriction, and cannot help if a name is taken or not allowed.

See the how-to-reserve guide and early name reservation guide.

What happens when reservation closes, and at launch?

Blizzard gives the window as October 27 through November 3 with no closing hour. Launch is November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST; see the launch week checklist and realms and regions. TimeSaver says Blizzard has not said whether the faction lock continues at launch.

What is not confirmed yet

  • What WOW51900309 means, and whether "No realms are currently available" is its exact text.
  • Whether the name fix is live in every region.
  • What triggers the "throttled" message: Blizzard does not say, and players link it both to retrying too fast and to the faction limit.

While you wait, the free Lore Forever add-on offers readable zone story for when you arrive; it is fan-made and has no part in name reservation.
