First Hour in WoW Forever: 6 Steps From Published Guides

Your first hour in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) goes best in six steps: settle your ruleset and faction, pick the Classic or Enhanced style at first login, choose a first and last name, read your first quests, bind your keys, and look for your race's free bag quest. Blizzard says you can group only with players on your own ruleset and faction, so those choices come first. Launch is November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.

Quick answer: Decide ruleset and faction with your friends, choose your style at first login, give yourself two names, then walk out and read. No source opened says how far an hour takes you, so read the steps as an order, not a timetable.

Six first-hour steps in WoW Forever: settle ruleset and faction, pick Classic or Enhanced style, choose a first and last name, read quests on green or yellow, bind keys and pull one enemy at a time, find your race's free bag quest.
The six first-hour steps, from Blizzard, Warcraft Tavern, mein-mmo, GamerBlurb and iTechGuides.

An hour is long enough to learn a road, a quest board and a few names.

Key facts

  • Grouping rule: same ruleset and same faction only (Blizzard, "Choose Your Ruleset")
  • First login: choose classic or enhanced style; classic turns off transmog and quest tracking by default (Warcraft Tavern, September 17, 2026)
  • Names: first and last name, 2 to 12 characters each (Warcraft Tavern names guide)
  • Quests: no level scaling; stay on green or yellow ones (mein-mmo, October 21, 2026)
  • Bag quest: level 4 or above for most races; Tauren start at level 1 (mein-mmo)

What should you decide before you log in?

Ruleset and faction. Blizzard says players cannot freely hop between rulesets and need a new character to change, and that Horde and Alliance cannot group. mein-mmo suggests PvE or roleplay rules for unhindered leveling; open-world PvP is available through /pvp, and switching it off takes five minutes. iTechGuides adds: confirm ruleset and faction in writing before anyone creates a character. See rulesets.

What do you choose at first login and in the name box?

Warcraft Tavern's report on the developer Q&A (September 17, 2026) says you pick a style on first login, and that by default the classic style disables transmogrification and quest tracking and enables SD models. You can change these settings later. The name needs both parts: Warcraft Tavern's names guide says each is 2 to 12 characters with no spaces, hyphens, numbers or apostrophes, and the pair must be unique in your region across all rulesets. Details are in the character name rules.

What do you do first in the world?

Read. GamerBlurb's beginner guide (September 18, 2026) says to create the character you want, enter the world, follow nearby quests and read them to see why you are moving between places. mein-mmo notes there is no level scaling: stay on green or yellow quests, because orange or red ones can quickly become dangerous. Start with the first 10 levels.

How should you set up your keys and fights?

GamerBlurb advises binding the abilities you use most and adding more gradually. mein-mmo says to pull carefully from a distance, one opponent at a time, and to bring supplies such as ammunition for hunters, poisons for rogues or water for mana classes.

Where is your free bag?

mein-mmo says orcs, trolls, undead, night elves, dwarves and gnomes get a quest for a first 6-slot bag at level 4 or above, Tauren begin a chain at level 1 with "A Humble Task," and humans have the longest route. Some quest names, givers and levels differ between guides; see free bag quests. mein-mmo also says new class skills from level-ups must be bought from your class trainer (class trainers).

What is not confirmed yet

  • No source opened gives how many levels an hour yields.
  • The classic-style defaults come from Warcraft Tavern's report of the developer Q&A, not a Blizzard page opened for this review.
  • Most guides were written during the beta; launch may differ.

How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help in your first hour?

The road gets richer when you know whose errand you run. The free Lore Forever add-on, which works on Mac too, puts a Lore button on the quest dialog and quest log that opens the quest's story, and prints a clickable question in chat when you enter a zone. Willo is a separate Windows companion: hold your talk key, ask what to do next, hear the answer, and keep a per-character notebook of to-dos. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, works without the add-on, and can be wrong, so check her against the quest text. Lore Forever is fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
