WoW Forever Cross-Realm Grouping: Rulesets, Regions, Phasing
You can group with anyone on the same ruleset and faction in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), because there is no realm list to cross; you cannot group across rulesets or across Horde and Alliance. Blizzard's October 22, 2026 ruleset post says players "can group, run dungeons, and raid" within a ruleset and that cross-ruleset grouping "is not supported", as of November 6, 2026.
Quick answer: Pick the same ruleset and the same faction as your friends. Icy Veins adds that the ruleset is shared within a region. After you join a group, click the arrow at the top left of your chat window to phase to your group, per Wowhead.

Key facts
- No realm choice: Blizzard replaced the realm screen with rulesets (Normal, PvP, Roleplay, Roleplay PvP; Hardcore after launch)
- Same ruleset: grouping, dungeons and raids work within a ruleset (Blizzard)
- Different ruleset: not supported (Blizzard); a new character is needed to play on another
- Factions: Horde and Alliance cannot group (Blizzard)
- Battlegrounds: may include other rulesets, except Hardcore (Blizzard)
Can you group across realms in WoW Forever?
Blizzard's ruleset post says the game moves away from the traditional realm-selection screen, and that each ruleset works like a broad player ecosystem rather than a single realm. So the realm barrier is gone inside a ruleset. Icy Veins says grouping, mail, Auction House and outdoor content are tied to players of the same ruleset, region and faction, and calls each ruleset a mega-server. Blizzard's post does not mention regions, so the region limit is Icy Veins' statement alone, from a page last updated September 18.
Can you group across rulesets or factions?
No. Blizzard says cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, so a Normal character cannot party with a PvP character for dungeons, raids or other group activities. Blizzard also says Horde and Alliance still cannot group together. The one exception Blizzard names is battlegrounds, which may include players from other rulesets, though Hardcore stays separate.
How do you get on the same ruleset as your friends?
Blizzard says players cannot freely hop between rulesets; to play under a different one you create a new character there. Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets, with Hardcore handled differently, and a dead Hardcore character can transfer to another ruleset once Hardcore opens. Icy Veins notes that the game does not launch with character transfers. On the PvP ruleset you can create characters for only one faction, per Blizzard, so friends on PvP must also pick the same side. The post does not say how to check a ruleset after creation, so agree on it before you roll. See which ruleset to pick.
Why can I not see my group after joining?
Wowhead says you no longer phase automatically when you join a group; a change Blizzard made after the beta and announced on its podcast. Click the arrow at the top left of your chat window to trigger the phase, and check for it even in town. Icy Veins says guildmates are often placed in the same layer. See different phase fix and layering explained.
What is not confirmed yet
- Region limit: only Icy Veins states it; Blizzard's ruleset post does not.
- Language preference: Blizzard says Esc, Options, then Languages and Social under System sets a Preferred Online Language with a 24-hour cooldown; how it affects groups is not stated.
- Group invites: no page I opened gives the invite steps for Forever; see looking for group.
- Phase arrow: one Wowhead report, not read on a Blizzard page.
Can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
Neither finds groups or changes your ruleset. Willo, a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later) per her page, lets you ask questions like "can my friend on PvP join my dungeon" out loud while you play, and her Friends tab shows who is out in the world when they share it. She can be wrong and is not official, so Blizzard's post is the source of truth. The free Lore Forever add-on adds quest and dungeon stories, has no internet access and narrates with generated voices. Willo is free to start with 50 answers a day. Both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
