WoW Forever Auction House Deposit: 1 Silver Minimum, Cut

In WoW Forever every auction house listing costs a deposit of at least 1 silver, even for items that vendor for a few copper; you get it back if the item sells and lose it if the listing expires or you cancel. Wowhead News reported this around November 5 to 6, 2026 and says it is unknown whether the minimum is intended. As of November 6, 2026 I found no Blizzard statement.

Quick answer: Expect to pay at least 1 silver per listing (per stack, for stackable goods, per AHLedger). The deposit comes back only when the item sells. Community sites assume a 5% cut at faction houses and 15% at neutral ones, which Blizzard has not confirmed for Forever.

Auction house costs in WoW Forever: a deposit of at least 1 silver that is refunded only if the item sells, the original WoW formula of 5, 20 and 60 percent of vendor price, an assumed 5 percent cut at faction houses and 15 percent at neutral houses, and the stack-size tip.

Key facts

  • Minimum deposit: 1 silver per listing (Wowhead News, November 5 to 6)
  • Refund: returned if the item sells, lost if it expires or is cancelled (Wowhead)
  • Cut: 5% faction house, 15% neutral house, listed as Classic rules (AHLedger, Hearthproof); not published for Forever
  • Durations: 12, 24 or 48 hours (AHLedger; Hearthproof read it from the beta interface)

How much is the auction house deposit in WoW Forever?

Wowhead's example: an item with a vendor price of 4 silver 61 copper would cost 92 copper to list for 8 hours under the original WoW rule, but Forever shows 1 silver. Wowhead says any cheap vendor item shows 1 silver. It writes that on the beta this looked like a bug because the displayed deposit did not match what was taken, but on live servers the two now match.

A Blizzard forum thread started November 5 has players reporting that items worth a few copper are charged 1 silver (one post cites a 63-copper item), and one poster recalls a 1-copper deposit on the beta. These are unverified player reports; none of the thread's 14 posts is from Blizzard.

How is the deposit calculated?

Wowhead says the original WoW rule is a share of the item's vendor price that rises with duration: 5% for 2 hours, 20% for 8 hours and 60% for 24 hours. AHLedger and Hearthproof say Forever instead offers 12, 24 and 48 hours, and Hearthproof marks that as read from the beta interface, not a Blizzard statement. The Warcraft Wiki's general auction page gives 15%, 30% and 60% for 12, 24 and 48 hours and says it is outdated. These sources disagree, so no Forever percentage is confirmed. Wowhead guesses the floor may come from Forever using the modern WoW client, which it says had a 1 silver minimum around 2018 or earlier. The Warcraft Wiki's formula also has a 1 silver floor.

What is the auction house cut?

AHLedger says a faction house keeps 5% of a sale and a neutral house 15%, and Hearthproof lists Forever as treated like Classic while saying Blizzard has published no Forever fee rates. One forum poster (about October 20, before launch) reported a sale at 50 gold 51 silver with an 8 silver deposit and a cut of 7 gold 57 silver, which works out to 15%; the post does not say which house it was.

Should I still use the auction house?

Wowhead advises larger stacks or vendoring cheap items. AHLedger says stackable items pay the deposit per stack, which fits that tip. Players in the November 5 forum thread ask for a change; I saw no Blizzard reply there.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Whether 1 silver is intended: Wowhead says unknown.
  • Forever deposit percentages and durations: Wowhead, the Warcraft Wiki and the two community sites disagree.
  • The cut: 5% and 15% are Classic rules, not Forever figures from Blizzard.
  • Changes: check the listing window's deposit line before you post.

Can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?

The Lore Forever add-on does not touch the economy. Willo can answer questions out loud, such as "is it worth listing this", but she can be wrong and is not official; the in-game deposit line and Blizzard's pages are the source of truth. Willo is free to start (50 answers a day) and is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later), per her page; her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. The add-on has no internet access and uses generated voices; both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
