Best Class for Solo Leveling in WoW Forever: Launch Week Picks
The best class for solo leveling in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is, by most sources I opened, Hunter, and Blizzard itself says Hunters "can utilize their pet as a tank in solo and small group play." WoW Forever launched on November 4, 2026, and as of November 5 every solo ranking I found is a beta result or a prediction, not a launch measurement.
Quick answer: Hunter is the top solo pick or tied for it in every list I opened. Warlock is the other companion class: TimeSaver recommended it as the safest solo start on October 10, then moved it down to A tier on November 3. Guides disagree about Mage and Druid, so read the reasons.

Our older guides cover the best solo class and the fastest leveling class; this page adds what moved in launch week.
Key facts
- Blizzard (September 30 class post): Hunters can use the pet as a tank in solo and small group play; the Lone Wolf talent gives 20% more damage with no active pet
- TimeSaver (October 10): recommends Hunter, Warlock and Paladin for solo beginners; warns against Mage, Rogue, Warrior and Druid for new players
- TimeSaver (updated November 3): S tier Hunter and Mage; A tier Shaman, Paladin, Warlock; B tier Rogue, Druid, Priest; C tier Warrior
- Boostroom (September 16): S tier Hunter, Warlock, Druid; B tier Warrior
Which class is best for solo leveling?
Hunter, on the evidence available. Blizzard describes the pet tank in its Hunter and Druid class post, and Warcraft Tavern's class overview suggests Hunter for those who want to explore the world alone with a pet. TimeSaver calls Hunter the best overall start, and its November 3 list keeps it in S tier. Boostroom calls it the strongest choice for 1 to 60 questing. See the Hunter leveling guide and hunter pets and taming.
What changed for Warlock in launch week?
TimeSaver's November 3 update says Warlock moved down because pets gain much less health from Stamina, but remains a strong A-tier leveler with damage over time, Fear and Life Tap. The list is a prediction from Blizzard's November 2 notes plus beta data. I did not open those notes, so the Stamina claim is single-source. Boostroom's S-tier grade predates it. See the Warlock leveling guide.
Why do guides disagree about Mage?
They rank different things. TimeSaver's October 10 beginner article calls Mage strong but fragile and warns that overpulls kill quickly; its November 3 speed list puts Mage in S tier. Warcraft Tavern's Mage guide praises Mage leveling but warns about mana and gear. One reading is safety for a new player, the other is speed for someone who pulls carefully. See the Mage leveling guide.
What about Paladin and Druid?
Paladin is the self-healing choice: TimeSaver (October 10) calls it forgiving and hard to get killed on for solo beginners, and Boostroom says it is harder to kill but slower. Druid is the widest split: S tier at Boostroom, B tier (up from C) at TimeSaver on November 3, and less suited to starting out in TimeSaver's October 10 article. Blizzard's post says Druids can perform any role but need others for the complete toolkit raids and dungeons require.
What is not confirmed yet
- Any measurement of leveling speed on the launch client; none of these lists is one.
- Levels 31 to 60: the beta stopped at 30, so these are forecasts.
- Blizzard's November 2 notes, which I did not open, and the pet Stamina change.
- Whether Boostroom, a commercial site, is independent; I use it only as a dated opinion.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable and recorded stories for the quests you cross, with narrators that are generated voices; it has no internet access. Willo is a separate companion app, free to start with 50 answers a day: ask her which class suits how you play. She can be wrong and is not official. Both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard. Willo's page lists a Windows 10 or 11 download and an Apple Silicon Mac download (macOS 12 or later), and her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app.
