Auberdine Explained: Darkshore's Night Elf Port in WoW Forever
Auberdine (pronounced AW-bər-DEEN) is the night elf harbor town on the western coast of Darkshore, led by the elder Thundris Windweaver, and in the original game it was the Alliance's main port in northern Kalimdor. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), launched on November 4, 2026, Blizzard names ship routes from Stormwind Harbor, and through Menethil and Southshore, that reach Auberdine.
Quick answer: After the Sundering ruined Darkshore, Auberdine was the only significant stronghold that lasted. When the night elves joined the Alliance it became their port for boats from the Eastern Kingdoms. In Forever, Blizzard names it as a ship destination, not a capital.

Darkshore is a coast where the old maps are drowned, and one harbor light keeps burning at its edge.

What is Auberdine in Warcraft lore?
Warcraft Wiki calls Auberdine a night elven town in Darkshore and the main port of the Alliance in northern Kalimdor, with damp air, low arched wooden buildings, lamp-lit streets and a night elven lighthouse. Wowpedia carries the same infobox. For the zone around it read the Darkshore guide.
Why does Auberdine stand alone on the coast?
Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia both explain it through the Sundering. In the age of the Kaldorei Empire, Darkshore lay further inland with cities such as Ameth'Aran and Bashal'Aran. The Sundering reduced the area to ruins and cut a new coastline through it. Several attempts to settle the land failed, and Auberdine was the only significant stronghold that managed to persist. Read night elf history for that older world.
Who rules Auberdine?
Both wikis name Thundris Windweaver, an elder who handled the day-to-day affairs of the townsfolk. Warcraft Wiki adds that the Auberdine Village Council hired adventurers, and that Sentinel Glynda Nal'Shea reported to the council. Auberdine is affiliated with Darnassus in the wiki's infobox.
What dangers surround Auberdine?
According to Warcraft Wiki's account of the original game, the moonkin to the east were turned hostile by a red crystal from Felwood, the Blackwood furbolgs to the south were corrupted by Fel Moss, and murlocs along the coast were sinking ships. The village council hired adventurers for these problems and others. See the furbolgs of Azeroth article for the other side of that story.
How do ships reach Auberdine in WoW Forever?
Blizzard's Found Photos recap says Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine opens an early path between the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, and that Menethil, Southshore and Auberdine add another route with more flexibility for leveling.
In the original game, Warcraft Wiki says a ferry called The Moonspray ran between Auberdine and Rut'theran Village at the foot of Teldrassil, and The Bravery ran to Menethil Harbor. Our boats and zeppelins guide lists the routes, and the Teldrassil guide covers the road to the ferry.
What is not confirmed yet
- Whether Forever's Auberdine keeps every original-game shop, service and ferry; Blizzard's recap names only the ship routes above.
- Which details are Forever's own text; the Lore Forever FAQ says Forever's text wins where it and the wiki disagree.
- The Cataclysm and the town's destruction are later in the timeline, outside WoW Forever.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The free Lore Forever add-on is fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard, and has no internet access. Its library has an Auberdine page under Darkshore, with narration from generated voices. Willo is a separate companion app with a Windows 10 or 11 download and an Apple Silicon Mac download (macOS 12 or later); the Lore Forever FAQ calls her a companion app for Windows and Mac. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, you can ask her out loud which boat to take, and she can be wrong and is not official.
