Satyrs in WoW Forever: Origins and Where to Find Them
Satyrs are horned, hoofed demons created by a curse that began when Sargeras remade the Highborne sorcerer Xavius during the War of the Ancients; Warcraft Wiki lists their sects in Ashenvale, Felwood, Darkshore, Azshara, Desolace and Feralas, which are zones in WoW Forever (World of Warcraft: Forever). As of November 5, 2026, no source I opened lists satyr changes made for Forever.
Quick answer: Warcraft Wiki says Xavius, councilor to Queen Azshara, was punished by Sargeras and became the first satyr. He passed the curse on, and only satyrs can make new satyrs. Today they live in small sects with no central leader.

Walk the old elven ruins of Kalimdor at dusk and something with hooves is usually watching from the broken stone.

Who was Xavius, the first satyr?
Warcraft Wiki says Xavius was one of the Highborne's most powerful sorcerers and served Queen Azshara as high councilor in the War of the Ancients. Sargeras punished his failures, tormented his spirit, then returned him in a transformed, disfigured body, the wiki says, to brand him as a servant of the Legion. His mission was to turn as many Highborne as possible into satyrs and bring Malfurion Stormrage to Sargeras. The wiki calls him the progenitor of the entire race and notes that satyr settlements carry variations of his name, such as the Xavian satyrs of Ashenvale. For the war itself, read about the Burning Legion and the night elves' history.
Can satyrs make new satyrs?
Yes, but only satyrs can. Warcraft Wiki says "New satyrs can only be created by preexisting satyrs," and that the curse has weakened so few are made now. It also says the War of the Satyr left the race without central leadership, which is why they live in small sects. Most serve the Burning Legion, but the wiki says some are sworn to the Old Gods or to Illidan, and some act independently. In Warcraft III, the wiki says, satyrs appear mostly in the Corrupted Ancients faction under Tichondrius; in World of Warcraft they appear as separate sects. Satyrs who followed Illidan in Outland are later in the timeline and outside Forever's first year.
Where are the satyrs in WoW Forever's zones?
Warcraft Wiki's sect list for Kalimdor places these groups:
- Ashenvale: Bleakheart, Fallenroot and Xavian; its Ashenvale page says satyrs inhabit the elven ruins at Xavian, Night Run and Satyrnaar
- Azshara: Haldarr and Legashi
- Darkshore: Deth'ryll
- Desolace: Hatefury and Putridus
- Feralas: Wildspawn, listed at Dire Maul
- Felwood: Jadefire
Zone guides: Ashenvale, Darkshore, Felwood and Feralas.
What is not confirmed yet
- Forever status: I found no source on which satyr camps or quests Forever changed; the wiki's sect list is not labelled by era.
- Single wiki: the Xavius and Satyr facts here come from Warcraft Wiki's Satyr and Xavius pages; I could not open a second independent page for the origin story.
- Fan-made coverage: Lore Forever's lore index has a Satyr page (opened November 5); the FAQ says its lore stays in the first year of WoW and leaves later expansions out.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with satyrs?
The free Lore Forever add-on is fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard and has no internet access; hover a mob or NPC and its tooltip carries a one-line story, and quests have a Lore button. Narrators are generated voices. Willo is a separate companion app with a download for Windows 10 or 11 and one for Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later); her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ now say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. Ask her aloud, "who is Xavius?" She is free to start with 50 answers a day, can be wrong and is not official.
