Highborne

Before the Sundering, the Highborne arose as the favored upper class surrounding Queen Azshara. Claiming superiority over common kaldorei through selective bloodlines, intelligence, and opulent privilege, they strictly controlled access to the Well of Eternity. They discovered how to tap and shape its primal arcane energies, erecting magnificent cities across ancient Kalimdor. Their endless thirst for greater sorcery led them to draw deeper from the Well, turning its calm waters turbulent and dark.

The ripples of arcane power created by Highborne spellcraft caught the attention of the dark titan Sargeras and the Burning Legion. Convinced by Azshara and her counselor Xavius that the demons would remake the world into an untainted paradise, the Highborne opened a massive gateway within the Well itself. This unleashed the catastrophic War of the Ancients. As demonic hordes slaughtered the populace, rebel forces rallied by Malfurion Stormrage fought to close the portal, causing the Well of Eternity to implode and tear the supercontinent apart.

The Highborne fate splintered after the Sundering. Those dragged beneath the waves alongside Azshara were twisted into serpentine naga, while others fell to demonic curses and became satyrs. A faction under Dath'Remar Sunstrider aided the resistance but refused to abandon arcane magic, ultimately suffering exile across the sea to found the high elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas. Today, isolated enclaves like the Shen'dralar remain cloistered in Eldre'Thalas, shunned relics of an empire that nearly destroyed Azeroth.
