Bashal'Aran

The story

Bashal'Aran is an ancient Highborne ruin situated in northern Darkshore, just east of Auberdine. Once a flourishing sister city to Ameth'Aran before the Great Sundering, the site now crawls with demonic satyrs and grells feeding on lingering arcane magic, while a solitary elven ghost remains trapped by a centuries-old curse.

Before the Great Sundering broke ancient Kalimdor ten thousand years ago, Queen Azshara settled favored Highborne subjects in the twin towns of Bashal'Aran and Ameth'Aran. Governed by the powerful mage Athrikus Narassin, the cities boasted splendid markets and temples dedicated to Elune. When the Well of Eternity collapsed, the cataclysm laid both settlements to waste. For reasons lost to time, Athrikus used his arcane mastery to bind his own second-in-command, the mage Asterion, into a moonstone seal within Bashal'Aran. Even after his physical body perished, Asterion's ghost remained shackled to the ruined shrine.
