Satyr

Satyrs are twisted, caprine demons born from the curse of the Highborne sorcerer Xavius during the ancient War of the Ancients. Once night elves, they were warped by Sargeras into horned, hooved beasts dedicated to spreading fel corruption, tormenting their former kin, and furthering the Burning Legion's will. Across the wilds of Kalimdor, scattered satyr sects corrupt pristine woodlands, desecrate moonwells, and subvert vulnerable mortal cults.

Origins of the Curse

Ten thousand years ago during the War of the Ancients, the Highborne councilor Xavius failed to keep the Burning Legion's initial gateway stable against Malfurion Stormrage. Enraged by this blunder, Sargeras dismantled Xavius's spirit and rebuilt him as a punishment and tool: his torso retained elven features, but he gained wicked horns, taloned claws, a leonine tail, and the cloven lower body of a goat. Sent back into Zin-Azshari, Xavius gleefully passed his fel affliction to other power-hungry Highborne. Though Xavius was struck down, his demonic progeny survived, continually seeking to reproduce their kind by corrupting others.

After the Sundering

Following the Great Sundering, the surviving satyrs continued to menace the shattered night elf civilization. Over the ages they were broken and driven off, their remnants fracturing into scattered sects that linger in dark forests and ancient ruins while harboring deep hatred for their kaldorei cousins.

Corrupters of Kalimdor

Today, satyr clans inhabit deep woodland enclaves across Kalimdor, from Darkshore and Ashenvale to Felwood, Azshara, and Feralas. They feed directly on the land's pure magic, leeching and spoiling nature until their hooves swell with drained arcane energy. Satyrs frequently turn peaceful furbolg tribes violent, taint ancient moonwells, and serve as covert liaisons for the Shadow Council and the Burning Blade. While some work alongside Twilight's Hammer cultists or hide within ancient ruins like Dire Maul, all remain bound to the shadow of the Burning Legion.
